Mainstream media (sort of) coverage for Paleo
« on: August 14, 2007, 04:44:32 PM »
Just spotted this:

http://news.independent.co.uk/health/article2861947.ece

Well researched... Talks about Cordain, Audette, and even de Vany. Cordain probably wouldn't have agreed with the way it made paleo out as being full of animal fat, though. lol @ Ornish quote.

Spotted it on reddit, on like the third page at one point:

Interesting that some redditor thought to post this.

(Ashamed to admit that I read reddit... ;))

I thought it was pretty good up until he started talking about The Bear.  The guy is just nuts.  He rampaged into the lowcarber.org forums probably about a year ago and caused a lot of ruckus.  He makes a lot of fantastical claims, cites absolutely no science to back them up, and ignores anybody who tries to refute his wild assertions with actual science (or accuses them of "acculturation").  He's definitely an interesting character, but not someone I would bring up if I were trying to make paleo sound good.  Bear's carnivorous diet isn't even paleo anyway, as he has arbitrarily decided that cheese and butter are acceptable foods.

Lol, I would agree.  I was going to pass this article on to some folks that are considering the paleo woe, but after that last section on the Bear I think I will find another one.

There always has to be one nut in the bunch... =)

Re: Owsley Stanley (the Bear)- from the Wikipedia:  "Stanley firmly believes that the natural human diet is a totally carnivorous one, thus making it zero carb, and that all vegetables are toxic."  Oh, I see.  So vegetables are toxic, but LSD is perfectly healthful.   ::)

But I agree that Shreeve's article in the Independent is pretty good, otherwise.. for a guy who has probably taken a few too many hits of White Lightning..
