Potluck rant
« on: November 02, 2011, 09:58:24 AM »
I am sitting at my desk , starving, because I went to a breakfast potluck at my work and the only food I could eat was what I brought (lox and lettuce for the bagels, which of course I couldn't eat) and some fruit.  Everything else was enclosed in pastry, or cheese, or bread, or cake/cookies. Its so easy to be paleo at home where I can stock the appropriate food and so difficult to be paleo out in the world! Ok I feel better now.

Speaking of which, what should I bring to my breakfast potluck at work tomorrow?

I hate potlucks because people are going to bring loads of cheap crap. Nobody is going to bring 15 T-Bone steaks. Not even 15 roasted chicken breasts. But they have no problem bringing two dozen bagels or two dozen donuts.  With Thanksgiving coming up I am expecting problems. People get insulted if you don't want to accept a jar of homemade jelly.

I've done something very similar to the cupcakes in the recipe.  I've used everything from cauliflower to garlic in them.  I usually clean out the fridge, so to speak and ditch anything that's going to turn soon ;)  They are very good...

At school PTA pot lucks I always bring balut (cooked duck fetus)... it's always the biggest hit, disappears faster than any of their dumb carb crap.
I'm on Raw Paleo diet but I have kids to feed on cooked paleo diet.

I usually bring some paleo bean-less chili.

Il Capo, do you have a good recipe for beanless chili?  This is my first winter as Paleo, and I love Chili.  I've tried a couple of recipes, but haven't been very happy with the results.  One of them tasted WAY too much like spaghetti sauce.  If you do have the recipe, I'd love it if you would share..  Or anyone who has a good chili recipe that doesn't taste like spaghetti sauce, for that matter  :)

Can't find mine, but here's one that looks similar:

Most Texans insist that chili is supposed to be bean-less, so google Texas chili. Some will suggest cheese, but do away with those.
