I've been Paleo since 72 pounds ago.  Pounds that I do not miss at all!  I started Paleo in July '09 after a "special education" student asked me if Cavemen ate bugs?  I explored his question on the internet; my first hit for "Cavemen Diet" was an article by Balzar....I've been Paleo ever since.  JMull

MEGS:  Nice post...are you aware that I'm now 70 pounds lighter then when I started Paleo and I've also lost ALL - repeat that - ALL of my arthritis.  Secondly, I now have "Baby Ass" skin texture on all parts of my body  - including the back of my biceps.  THIS PART IS FOR OTHER READERS: I'm of Irish descent and have no eczema!!  My Paleo wife of 38 years also has 'super smooth' skin and she is of Irish ancestry also!  GO PALEO!  If your skin is optimal doesn't that indicate your internal organs are good too.  JMull

I switched to paleo because of depression and inflammation. I ate cooked paleo for a few months, then raw paleo for a few months. Eating too much fruit and not enough fat made me manic and I lost a lot of weight. Also, fruit triggered massive carb cravings and I began eating lots of sugar and grains. That lasted almost two months and my health problems returned. I transitioned back to eating raw paleo by eating cooked paleo for a week. When I went back to raw paleo I decided to try eating raw zero carb, which I have been doing for a month and I am feeling great this time, not losing weight because I am eating lots of fat. My journey started back in February of this year, so total time has been over 6 months. I am still improving things, such as water intake. I have been drinking only mineral water for the past week and will continue to do so as long as I am able to do so.

Currently I have been rotating eating different organs with meals. I will eat 1 lb. of ground beef, 3-4 ounces of heart or liver, and 7-10 ounces of marrow fat. I want to get a greater variety of organs, but it is difficult to get anything besides liver, heart, kidney and spleen. I have had lung and sweetbreads, thymus, pancreas and like those but can't find a good source. I can't find brains either. I do not like the ground beef as much as I used to and I am considering eating just organs and fat, as I now prefer the organs to muscle meat.

Cool.

This comes from feeding dogs, not humans, so take it with a grain of salt, but I am wondering if eating only organ and fat is healthy.  Skeletal muscle is a large part of the animal, and I can't imagine that it would have been neglected as a food source.  They are such concentrated sources of certain vitamins and minerals that I'd consider tracking how much of everything you're getting.  While it's more common on the standard western diet to be lacking in those areas, it is possible to have problems if you consume too much.

Also, heart is muscle, so if you're eating a lot of that it might balance out between organ and muscle.

Interestingly, heart is my least favorite organ, probably because it is a muscle. But I eat it for the CoQ10. I have been eating mostly heart and liver lately, I will be getting kidney and spleen soon. I track everything in NutritionData (http://nutritiondata.self.com/), and the important nutrients are off the charts even when eating more muscle meat than organ meat.

As for skeletal muscle meat, I think that paleolithic humans only ate it if they needed to, favoring organs, marrow and brains. What was left over was given to the dogs, which is how we domesticated them. Fresh, raw muscle meat is tough and unpalatable (for humans, not dogs and tigers). That is why it is commonly aged. Fresh organs and marrow are delicious and ready to eat.

So proud of everyone who decided to eat healthier--it takes so much discipline, self compassion, and work---great job everyone!

I've been about a month ago and loving it so far.

I have been on Paleo since 2006, i.e. five years. And so has my partner as well.

It's working great, we got back the bodies we had in university-years (when we turned 30+ our bellies grew and we started to look for alternatives when it comes to food). The weight loss was a bonus, the reason for going paleo was purely health-wise, my partner has a family history of high blood-pressure and diabetes.

Hi all.

I am as about a hard core Meat eater as there is, but hats of to you guys and girls eating raw organs, I have not tried, I am not knocking it, I just dont know if I could do it, I have drunk the milk from a dead goats teat that I shot for meat, a few guys standing around almost lost it ( thier lunch that is).

Could you point me in the direction of methods used to prepare etc, what other foods you eat with to compliment I would appreciate, I can eat raw steak, raw mince etc, raw fish, but organ meat just does my head in.

Oh, and I have just started week 2 of paleo, loving it. Started for continued weight loss and health reasons.
