Sore calves/massage
« on: February 04, 2012, 11:35:23 AM »

If you transition to barefoot running styles or are on your feet a lot you may get sore or irritated feelings in your calf muscles.  Just an FYI that having a loved one/friend use a kitchen rolling pin on your calves as you lie on your stomach is god-like!  Any massage/foam rolling is good but I think calves, on all sides (back, left, right) can really use a working on most people.

Try it or let me know if you swear by this as well.

I have one of those hand massagers with a ball that freely rolls. Heaven.

I have a PhD in leg pain thanks to a long running and ongoing battle with Fibromyalgia. My calves scream in pain almost continuously, 24/7, 365. I have to say that the rolling pin technique is one of my favs for relieving muscle pain in my calves. I can take it on my calves but I'll jump outta' my skin if it's used on my quadriceps!

Hmmm I'll have to find someone quick to help me with that :)  My calves have been yelling at me for my increased activity recently, and my legs have always been in very decent shape to begin with.

I know a couple bicyclists that use that technique on sore leg muscles and swear by it!

I also sit in somewhat of a squat-like position frequently that places lots of stress on my calves.  As such they need attention on occasion
