Struggling A LOT

I wasn't sure where to put this, so I chose Misc...
I am really struggling as of late. I have been Paleo for almost 3 months and was doing really well. I lost those pesky 10 pounds I wanted to get rid of and felt really good. The last month or so I have been horribly tired. I am so extremely exhausted I can barely stand to stay awake to care for my 2-year-old and my 4-year-old in the evenings. I nearly takes everything in me to get them to bed before I collapse. Then I go to bed and... I lay there with my eyeballs wide open and absolutely can not sleep. It is the MOST frustrating feeling in the world. And the cravings are terrible. I am bored with the food I eat. I have been trying really hard to find new recipes, but truthfully, a lot of them have been disappointing. I tried a new recipe the other day that someone named bean-less chili. They should have called in spaghetti sauce. That's what it tasted like. Have you ever eaten a big bowl of spaghetti sauce? ISH. I've been sticking with the the safe standards because I can't afford to waste food, and I don't want to make something that I don't care for and have to gag it down because that's all there is to eat. I've considered going back to SAD, but just a few tortilla chips with salsa make me feel ill. I'm not really interested in puking up everything I eat until I get used to crap food again. And I don't really want to eat crap food. I'm just having a tough go right now I guess. Any suggestions, other than eat more fat. I know that. I spot check with FitDay and generally consume between 60 and 70 percent of my calories in fat. Could I be deficient in some kind of vitamin? Could that be making me so tired? I took a vitamin this morning that I had in my drawer at work that I took before I started Paleo, but I have felt worse today than I have in ages. UGH :p

Stephie, first of all (((hugs))).
Could this be related to what's happening in your wider life? Feeling crashingly tired all day and then not being able to sleep is often stress-related. You talked about caring for your young kids "in the evenings". I presume from that you're also doing paid work during the day? When does your day start and stop, and how much down-time do you get during the day? Many women with young kids work 16 or more hours a day with breaks only to eat and shower. It's no wonder if they're tired and stressed - they're doing two jobs!

Aside from the fat thing, which you know, make sure you are getting enough calories.
Dimming the lights early in the evening will help you be able to get to sleep.
Are you taking a vitamin D supplement? Paleolithic humans got their vitamin D from sunshine, but few of us moderns spend all day outside every day. Vitamin D supplements are the next best thing.

My day starts at 5am. I am at work by 5:45 and then work straight through until 2:15. Then I hurry home so my husband can go to work and I'm on kid duty until 8:30 when I put them to bed. Then I try to crash myself, not always successfully...
I haven't been taking any supplements thus far, except for the multi I took yesterday. I will try a Vitamin D for sure... I'm sure I don't get enough working in my lovely office, and winter is coming to the frozen north, so I'm sure my exposure will only go downhill from here. I think I will keep taking the multi too, since I still have some left in my bottle. If they don't seem to do anything for me, I'll ditch them when they are gone. Thanks for the suggestions. And I didn't mean to rant in my email. I just get so darn frustrated sometimes. I get exhausted with my kids and wish they would just leave me alone for a while and then I feel terrible because I feel that way. It's a never ending vicious cycle
Anyway, I will take all of your suggestions to heart and keep plugging away. I am very fortunate to have found such a helpful caring forum. Thanks you guys

Hi Stephie, it really sounds to me like you need more rest! Would it be possible to get in a babysitter for a couple of hours in the afternoon so you can get some sleep? Then you could have some time enjoying the kids rather than just surviving the afternoon/evening. I think that would make more difference than all the multivitamins in the world. In another year or two things will get easier as they'll be more at the stage where you can put your feet up even if they're awake.
Diet is huge, but it isn't always the problem or the solution.

That's good to hear! Everyone is so quick to jump to the conclusion that my diet is what is making me feel like crap. I must say, though, that my husband thought it was probably my insane schedule too. Yeah for him
Sadly, the childcare in this area is less than satisfactory. We don't have a babysitter on purpose. The last one did more damage than good, and we just don't want to deal with it anymore. I know it will get better. I keep telling myself that, anyway! My mother lives too far away, otherwise, she would be happy to help out. His mother lives about 30 minutes away, but sadly, getting her to help without feeling like you are asking her for one of her kidneys is unheard of. As my mother says, "Tie and knot and hang on." That's what I plan to do. Thanks for all of your responses and concern
