Trendy?
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:20:00 AM »
I am a collection development librarian on Long Island. Two years ago I had a thyroid operation which resulted in my going Paleo.  Since I didn't know anything about Paleo, I went to the library catalogue and was surprised to see the stats on any book about the paleo/primal lifestyle.  Even though there were very few books, they were all out and had circulated many many times.  I thought that this was a good new category to develop and, in the last two years have purchased 12 nutrition/cookbooks for the collection.  I now have so many that I thought it would be helpful to label them "paleo" under their dewey number, as we do for our "gluten-free books."  When I went to the catalogue yesterday to collect the books for relabeling much to my amazement-every one of them was out. I went to a Simon and Schuster book presentation last week and they were pitching a new book for women, as Paleo is "a guy thing."  This book is entitled "Paleoista," and is reaching for the chick-lit audience. I guess we've "arrived" now. BTW if anyone wants a list of the books I ordered, would be happy to print them.

Interesting. How did your doctor explain/approach you going Paleo?
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Samjohn, I'm afraid my doctor didn't introduce me to paleo-I found a reference to it on a thyroid site I was using to help me in my recovery. When I told my endocrinologist about it, she had never heard of it...but she knows now.
