seriously, the only thing I haven't tried on that list is the story book at bedtime.

IDK what happened . . . we had this nice routine for quite some time . . . then in November he just decided he does not need to sleep.  What was so special about November in his little mind??  ???

...he was too old for stories and started reading encyclopaedias in bed...

That made me laugh. I was that kind of kid, too.

last night we seemed to have found a compromise . . . he allowed me to rock him back to sleep, so long as we used the rocker in our bedroom, not his!  ;D

I know I advised against bargaining but when my daughter was at her worst and used to try to control every detail of bedtime I used to allow her one small "victory" - it usually made her feel better and calmed her down. I had a terrible time of it with her as her mother had the "anything for an easy life" attitude and would give in to her every demand. In the end though her mother refused to put her to bed so I was left on my own to deal with and we soon got into a good routine.

we're getting into a good routine now, finally!  Looking back on it now, I think it started with the 2 yr molars beginning to come in, in November.  With kiddo's nightshade sensitivity, he CAN'T have the Hylands teething tablets, and the regular baby teething gel didn't work . . . the amber necklace was barely taking the edge off . . . the only thing that helped to calm him to sleep with the pain was us cuddling him to sleep.  Which worked well for awhile . . . until he got too used to that!!!!!  I didn't realize at the time that this was a big part of the problem it turned into.  It began to be: if he fell asleep with us, and woke up in his crib, that did NOT go over well and it was a long night.  But, if he falls asleep in his crib with toys . . . he does MUCH better, sleeps better and longer and best yet, no screaming!

He's still waking up way too early, wanting to be awake and playing . . . but at least he's not screaming.  And since he apparently listens to the pediatrician more than ME . . . I had her TELL him today that he needs to sleep more!!  ;D
