Since samjohn asked, Kaiden's history.
« on: October 09, 2010, 08:47:06 AM »
I don't know if I can be more specific about the weight issue in the other thread without going into all the details.  There's a lot to Kaiden's story, so instead of typing out a book again, I'll direct anyone interested to my blog.  This is the introduction post that goes into detail about Kaiden's history: http://thegreenchildchronicles.blogspot.com/2010/06/introduction.html

Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Don't you wish that more parents would take their kids health into their own hands instead of always really on the doc?

YES!!!  I hate it when people take western medicine as law.  Boy, if I hadn't followed my intuition, where would Kaiden be now?  Still a floppy lump on the floor having seizures, I bet.

Yesterday he sat up all by himself (no assistance) from a laying down position for the very first time!  I am so proud!!  ;D

We have a good pediatrician, she's very open to other things (much better than his last pedi), but she thinks I'm taking it too far with the paleo diet and actually told me Kaiden's TOO healthy.  She really wants him on grains.  Uh, no.

Just read your TTC story, greenchild.  What a nightmare!  No wonder you don't trust doctors.

Wow weird, what possible reason could she have for saying he's 'too healthy'? Or bringing grains back in when Paleo has hade such a huge positive effect...

Western medicine mentality, what else can I say?  ::)  Part of it was that he lost 3lbs pretty quickly when the seizures stopped and he got active.  It was too fast of a weight loss for her comfort zone.  I understand her concern, but it was a very unique situation.

If she's as open as you say, I bet she'll come around as he continues to do well.  It's *hard* to overcome things that you've had drilled into you by people you trust and respect.

Did she literally say, "Too healthy?"  That's funny in a sad way.

Do paleo kids grow more slowly than most?  This is going to sound really dumb, but puppies and kittens fed grain-free diets grow slowly and steadily and are really lean rather than rolly-polly, but end up reaching healthy adult weights and sizes.

I'm wondering if the same applies to children, that they lose baby fat and don't go through as many growth spurts.

yes, she literally said "too healthy".  I do think she was trying to be funny, but yes, it is sad!

IDK if paleo kids grow slower . . . he was less than a year old when I took away grains - all in all he only got them for about 4 months.  Never did dairy, no point as he gets breastmilk.  That makes sense about puppies/kittens.  Kaiden's expected to be small anyway, with Down Syndrome.  Although, he did just have a lil' growth spurt   ;D And who knows how tall he'll be - I'm 5'2" and hubby is 6'6".
