Exercises / Deadlifts = Dead back
« on: February 23, 2012, 06:59:47 AM »
Hey all,

New to crossfit, about 6 weeks in. Did deadlifts on Sunday morning, and now it's Thursday and my back has been killing me since Monday. :-[

I am positive my deadlift form got more horrendous as I got tired, and I know this is why my lower back has been very painful. I saw a chiropractor on Tuesday, who attributed my pain to being a new weight lifter and said it should go away soon.

I'm wondering how all you experienced cave people have handled a similar injury.

I am so happy to have found a community of people who's Paleo/crossfit experience I can learn from.

I am 28 years old and tip the scales at 220 ( :o). I was an athlete in my youth but since getting married 9 years ago I just let it all go. I have researched paleo for about a year but have always found a thousand excuses why it couldn't apply to my daily life.

I joined a crossfit box a month ago and was immediately humbled by the intensity of the workouts, and I was forced to realize the truth of how out of shape I really am. I thought the rest of my beginner group would begin to lose patience with me always being the anchor, but it was the exact opposite. It was with their support and my family that helped me complete the beginner cycle.

Through my Crossfit box I have started a 30 day strict paleo challenge, and am currently on day 5. It has not been as hard a transition as I expected from hearing other people's gripes, and I've already lost 6 lbs. I'm looking forward to completing the 30 days with zero cheats, then continuing on the paleo journey and learning to view this not as a restriction, but a high quality way to live my life.

Diet and nutrition / Re: Coconut sugar better than raw honey?

Thank you for the feedback I appreciate it. Obviously this is not something to eat regularly, but I was trying to find alternative sweets so as to get my 10 year old to stop eating snickers bars. He only weighs 71 lbs so it's not a weight issue, I'd just like to show him that Mom's paleo diet can be fun for him too.

Diet and nutrition / Coconut sugar better than raw honey?

Hi all,

I've been noticing a lot of Paleo desert recipes calling for coconut sugar...and I'm wondering if this is a better substitute or at least comperable to raw honey or agave necter? Would appreciate any feedback, professional or opinion.
