Diet and nutrition / I'm failing, I need help

A little bit of depression is starting to set in with me and weight loss. I don't have the time I use to, I work full time, take 2 classes and have gotten back into the dating seen. My life is packed now and the extra work it was taking to meal prep and find new recipes is gone.

I use to have 5 hours a day put aside to play video games several days a week. I'd play 25 hours a week, hit the gym twice a week, do meal prep, have 2-3 days I could sleep 10 hours. Now I have no days I can sleep 10 hours unless I work my schedule to sleep 6 days a week, which is rough.

I've hit that paleo wall that nutritionists criticize paleo for being to hard to follow. And I'm gaining weight. I woke up this morning 10 pounds heavier than my normal. I think I need a support network or something. I've also reached out for help in another area of my life and was basically told by that community I was a part of to either suck it up or complain to somebody who cares, which didn't help. I need a community of people who aren't gonna kick me when I'm down, because that strategy just didn't work on me.



Don't know what to do.

Was hoping to find some lower carb taco type recipes. I like the worst of all things "Mexican Pizza" from Taco Bell. Trying to find a way to mimic that, but without the amount 48g of carbs per serving. Only 7 of which is dietary fiber, 3 sugar, and I assume 38g of starch. Generally what it takes to fill me up is:

2 Mexican Pizzas, and  a fiery taco. Total calories 1,270. Carbs: sugar 7, starch 80


Any ideas?

Go with the highest glycemic load foods..........


I would do a pureed juice, this way fiber is in it. The juice/soup will drink very fast. I don't wanna knock eating fat too much, but my high fat days actually make me lose weight. Grapes, peaches, bananas need to become your best friend. I would drink them before bed as I lose most of my weight while I sleep and the more sugary things I eat/drink before bed the less I lose. This is all advice from my experience, so take it with a grain of salt as your body as everyone else is different.

There's no way to know this. Your putting myth on top of myth, and the fact that societies that ate 90% meat were generally healthier than the ones who ate high carbohydrate(plants) tells a lot. You sound like your pro vegan.

No, you can have all the bacon you want. Meat is not bad for you. Your post reeks veganism in disguise. The have all you want saying was used because almost everyone who goes on a low carb diet has an incredibly hard time eating more than they need. You can eat all you want, because you won't want more than you need, which isn't the case for high carb junk food eaters who have parts of there brain turned off preventing them from knowing when to stop. If you truly don't feel full ever, then you need to see a doctor, there is a part of your brain that is likely damaged.

In terms of Omega-3 I noticed only a small difference in my blood pressure before low carb, after low carb lifestyle I noticed no difference. In my opinion the science behind Omega-3 supplements is there under a microscope, it just lacks the dummy data. The dummy data is my way of saying we don't yet have droves of people out there that we can pinpoint Omega-3 pills as having a positive effect. It makes since in a lab, but the studies done on effects we can see in people is iffy at best.


I do omega-3 eggs and that's all. This is only done on the off chance I am causing myself harm by not doing so. Omega-3 chicken eggs taste the exact same with no different smell.

I like to eat dark chocolate every day. I eat 2-3 squares(3 grams carbs per square) a day. I was wondering if there is a mixture out there that is a bit like a caramel chew a mixed with dark chocolate. But all organic, not a tone of sugar.

Cardio is endurance based, running, cycling, swimming.

I think what you really need is strength training. Put your self through a Starting Strength program for a year and this will get you more tone, build more strength. In other words, lift weights. This will require you to join a gym(not planet fitness), one that uses power racks. My recommendation might be more complicated an answer than you wanted, but I believe that is the answer you need.

The whole thing with metabolism is quite strange... of course, I know body adapts pretty wisely, but regardless of anything, I would expect anyone being in a caloric deficit to loose weight. (stupid example): Have you ever seen a fat homeless person? They eat rubbish, but they eat less. That's it.

The better example is in third world nations where you do see plenty of fat people. The children are mostly thin and many adults are fat. Now unless you fully believe that the parents are starving there kids to become fat, then it is entirely a metabolism issue.

Here are many areas where your body might slow down......

1. Brain function: You don't think as fast, memory will poorer, motivation will be poorer. You  might not feel different, but but your tested performance will likely be less.

2. General less movement, lots of studies show people who starved will be more sedentary. You can force yourself to work out, but for the rest of the 22-23 hours of the day you will generally move less.

3. The body doesn't burn as hot. In other words you use less energy to generate heat to stay warm.


You said you were satiated, which sounds like you should not have any of these effects, but then you dropped what I think is a huge part, which is intermittent fasting, you have to be hungry at least some of the time. Most explanation I see is that you are allowed 4-6 hours during a 24 hour period to eat, is this you? This could be the sole reason for a slowing of metabolism.

I will near guarantee you that if you were maintaining a weight say 150 pounds at a higher caloric intake last year, and now you have been much lower calorie wise for 3 months and almost no loses, then you good sir have stunted your metabolism. You need to stop doing low calorie. Some body builders report it takes up to 8 months to recover metabolism after shows depending on how extreme the low calorie intake was. I'm not sure how best to do this, but that's at least part of your problem.

Needing gram for gram of body weight on protein is entirely disproven. And if your not power lifting or body building it's especially not important. You be just fine at >90......... And your body might like where it's at, again it's hard to know more unless you had your body fat checked.

Your carbs and protein is where I would focus. Carbs first though. I don't quite see how your protein is at 100 and fat at 90, I'm at the same protein intake with 150g fat.  I eat eggs, bacon, prok chops, steak, avocado, butter, olive oil........

I think this is too broad. So I can only answer in broad strokes.........

You say that you aren't progressing, so I ask what is your body fat? I personally can't get below 12% without calorie restriction. I started at 20 before this eating lifestyle, now at 12. If you want to drop below what your body is built to be at, then you will likely need to starve.

Also to your statement about not progressing, what was you weight before, and what is it now? Also very curious about the exact amount of fats, proteins and carbs you eat? If your eating 1400 calories a day and only 100 grams fat(800 calories) then I assume 600 from protein(100ish grams) and carbs(50ish grams). Depending on your weight and real numbers, I would cut back on carbs and protein first. A 180 pound man can do well on >90 grams of protein a day, and get carbs down >40


Keep in mind I made up the above numbers based on your broad statements I would be happy to redo this if you answered my questions.

I'd have to agree Eric. Could just be nerves, body feels a little different than it normally does, so it gets a little jittery over some mild anxiety.

I wouldn't trust much of any testing done on the issue. Producers might lie, and from week to week the reinforcing of such strict policy on livestock just wouldn't happen. I don't envision 3 weeks doing terrible things, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. Could go either way.

I would let it go and get what you feel comfortable with.

I just don't get why anyone who believes in Paleo would not eat meet. Cholesterol, animal fat, animal protein. I don't think your gonna feel better ever.


Go back to the way you were eating before, at least you'll feel better.

I was trying to see how many carbs are in Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza. IT turns out there are 48g......... 7 dietary fiber and 3 sugar.


So what else makes up the carbs? 3g of sugar sounds fairly nice if my body isn't getting hit with a massive amount of sugar. I'm thinking it is the sauce that has the sugar, and the meager veggies that have the fiber....... What about the other 38g? Flour?

I was reading this http://180degreehealth.com/starch-lowers-insulin/ and all I could do was think it was complete garbage. The author did not cite anything, he made broad statements attacking the carbs=higher insulin statements with no proof or link to data to prove it, and also made broad claims that insulin does not cause weight gain again not citing or pointing to any source whatsoever to prove his statements. Am I missing anything? Is this just a bogus slam piece?
