To be fair, Cordain is moving away from his extreme low sat fat recommendations. These days he recommends the use of coconut products (high sat. fat) and I think one of his last papers has a range of animal sat. fat from 10-20%. Better than his previous 7% nonsense.

We found (range of medians in en%) intakes of moderate-to-high protein (25-29), moderate-to-high fat (30-39) and moderate carbohydrates (39-40)

It seems like domestication of tubers goes back much further than domestication of grains.  It is still, of course, a tiny amount of time compared to the 2,000,000 years of the paleolithic.
You can also say "It seems like domestication of cattle goes back much ...", this doesn't mean our ancestors did not eat the wild ancestors of today's cattle. The same is true for tubers; it doesn't mean our ancestors did not eat the wild ancestors of today's tubers.

Is it true that some paleo followers go very heavy on the meat and only eat few vegetables? Shouldn't vegetables be one of the main components on pretty much any diet? Especially paleo
I would make sure you have a net alkaline diet. In my opinion eating vegetables does not makes sense in the wild, too few calories for the effort. Only reason I eat them is to add flavor (onions, etc). I get my plant part of the diet from roots, tuber, and fruits. Some will tell you tubers are not paleo. I have with my very own hands dug edible wild tubers (in Florida and Cuba), enough evidence for me our HGs ancestors ate them.

** About the evidence of paleolithic men eating a carnivorous diet: that is absolutely true. Except for these are isotopes of bones found in northern regions. Humans DID NOT evolve there, humans evolved in southern Africa where more plant matter was available. The paleo diet should be modeled after homo sapiens in southern Africa since the diet of cavemen living outside of southern Africa is already a deviation from out natural evolutionary diet. It is a deviation because it was introduced after our species originated, just like grains and dairy, and we have not change enough since these nutritional introductions.

I'm new to coconut milk myself and am wondering a) whether it needs to be refrigerated and b) why some of the tins I bought say that once opened it should be consumed within two days.

Any advice?

I am assuming you are only referring to canned coconut milk. a) Yes, it needs to be refrigerated after opening. b) I follow what the tin says. Mine normally lasts 3-4 days in the fridge.

If you have teeth problems while in the paleo diet you are doing something wrong. Make sure you are getting enough vitamin A (from animal products: liver, eggs, etc), vit D, and vit K2 from (pastured) animal fats. If you are not convinced that the paleo diet should eliminate tooth decay read "Nutrition and physical degeneration" by Weston A. Price.

I think we should create a list of recommended books for new paleoers. Maybe a list of blog articles that are well referenced. This is so that they know where to go in order to answer such basic questions that everyone asks at some point or another.

For example, if I were butters I would want a full-blown argumentation which looks into all the research related to cholesterol numbers, preferably as part of a book or a well-written article.

Hmmm... might work on this over the break. Does anyone know a good software to archive research?

Coconut milk is a processed food. It required machines and things to get IN that state, so you have to keep processing it to keep it in that state. There's no way around it separating.
Coconut milk made from scratch is as processed as ground beef. It is not a processed food.

PaleoRainy, are you losing weight? If you are losing weight then it's really [1400 calories + (how ever much fat you burn in calories)] that your body is using. Once my weight stabilized on the paleo diet I naturally (without realizing) started consuming more food to keep that weight.

I find I don't eat much unless I workout. I can put down some massive amount of food (for my size) if I workout. Caloric restriction is linked to many benefits, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. As long as you are eating quality food you shouldn't worry about calories.

I don't eat pork and I never would.  I don't consider it fit for human consumption.

A caveman would have hunted the crap out of a properly raised (wild) pork, thus it is fit for human consumption.

My bet is that paleolithic peoples simply didn't have acne.  Certainly it seems largely to clear up when people here go paleo.
Kitavans and Aché tribesmen do not have any signs of acne (1). They are not even paleo, but if they don't have acne living a subsistence-farming life, I would also agree with Warren.
