« on: February 25, 2014, 04:29:42 AM »
So I was looking on amazon for some paleo foods...and wad wondering if any of you have ordered food items on amazon before? There are certain flours and things I cant find locally so I was thinking of ordering them.
I also came across these

www.amazon.com/dp/B00EPTYHGA/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_OOidtb0BR4WV4

And was wondering if anyone has tried them or knows if they truly are paleo??

Miscellaneous / Natural ways to treat your body?
« on: February 24, 2014, 12:58:44 PM »
One thing I havent read much about the paleo diet is whether or not paleo followers also go natural when it comes to treating colds or headaches or pain etc or for things like shampoo and soaps

Do you use natural products to treat yourself? If so can you give me some ideas?

I already use a natural pain reliever spray for my back pain but I get migraines and ill tend to go to tons of tylenol when I get one. I do have a natural sinus oil that helps sometimez but not often.
And I also use natural goats milk soap in the shower which I love.

Id also be interested in Natural cold remedies as well
Thanks! :)

Miscellaneous / spirulina and kombucha?
« on: February 20, 2014, 03:55:54 PM »
So I found two local stores that grow and sell their own fruits and veggies yesterday. ..and one of the shops sold frozen spirulina packs...spirulina ice cream..and kombucha (with all the lovely floaty bacteria things)

Ive heard of both kombucha and spirulina in the "paleo world" and was wondering if any of you use it...and if is beneficial to use..how often you should take it..etc

Bought a pack of spirulina because I was curious but afraid to try it with out some feedback!

So my birthday is Friday and I wanted to bake myself a "paleo" birthday cake. I think I found a recipe that's pretty good.
But there are two ingredients I cant find anywhere that I need substitutions for.
One is arrowroot powder and the other is palm shortening.
Here is the recipe
 http://www.thepaleomom.com/2012/07/recipe-paleo-spice-cake-with-maple.html

It says I can use butter instead of shortening for the cake part...but what about the frosting?
And for tje arrowroot...can I use tapioca starch? Is that paleo? And would it be the same amounts?

Pleeeease any advice would be helpful. Id like to bake it tomorrow night!

Miscellaneous / blender or food processor?
« on: February 18, 2014, 01:43:57 PM »
So ive come across many recipes that call for a blender or food processor. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a good one (one or the other) that can do most things. Also one that can hold a decent amount.

Recipes and meal photos / spaghetti squash seeds??
« on: February 18, 2014, 10:33:20 AM »
So since starting the paleo diet at the beginning of january...ive probably prepared anywhere from 6-10 spaghetti squashes. I cant get enough of them!

After the first couple of them though I started thinking about whether or not I could use the seeds to get more for my money?

I feel like you could because they seem similar to pumpkin seeds.
So my questions are...if you can...do they taste good? How would I cook them? And if I put them in a tupperware..how long could I keep them refrigerated before they went bad?

Thanks!

Exercises / best at home equiptment to own?
« on: February 10, 2014, 11:43:42 AM »
I currently own a treadmill, one of those machines where you sit and pull the bar toward you while pushing out with your feet (never use this machine), and I have a couple pairs of small dumbells, around 1-3lbs I think.

I would really like some good exercise items to have on hand at home. Preferably small things that can be easily stored...dont have much room for another big machine.

Ive heard a lot about kettlebells on here? Ive never used them but is this something good to own?

When im doing at home workouts I seem to like to work on my abs or my arms the most...but I will take any suggestions for some good items to own.
Thank you!

Diet and nutrition / too much tuna fish...dangerous?
« on: February 10, 2014, 11:28:37 AM »
So Ive been eating tuna fish for lunch every day for about a week...and my mom mentioned to me this morning not to eat too much of it because her friend got sick from too mucg mercury in tuna fish. Is there truth to this? If so how much can I eat it? Ive found that having favorite dishes Have made it easier for me not to stray from the paleo diet if I make them often. ..and this has become a favorite and easy lunch for me. I guess i can switch it up with some chicken instead. But id really like to know if this is dangerous anyway?

« on: February 08, 2014, 11:28:31 AM »
My bf is letting me borrow his pull up bar..one of those ones that mount up on doorframes.

I was wondering if there was a position or something that will work my triceps really well? Or is it mainly going to work my biceps?

Exercises / crossfit???
« on: February 08, 2014, 07:51:33 AM »
Does anyone here do crossfit?

My cousin in NY does it and he loves it and swears by it! And he says crossfit and paleo really go hand in hand.

Just curious if anyone here does it and what their experiences with it are?

I have my gym membership until april-ish...so I probably wont start until atleast late march because I want to actually get my moneys worth from this gym first.
But im very interested

Recipes and meal photos / fruit and nut bars??
« on: January 30, 2014, 08:02:53 AM »
I really wanted to make some fruit and nut bars to have on hand for something quick to grab for breakfast if im running late...or before a workout.
I found a recipe that called for 1cup almonds, 10 pitted dates, and 1/4 cup raisins.  And basically you just blend it together in a food processor....form a large bar...freeze it fpe an hour and then cut it up.

Well I didnt have or want raisins so I used dried apricots instead...and I dont have a large food processor so I did it in sections.  Idk if it was one of those two things that caused it to fail or if I needed an extra ingredient...but they were so crumbly rhat I coulsnt keep them together.  So instead I made them into baggies of a sort of "granola". They taste awesome. .I just kinda wish they were in bar form.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for me? Or a similar recipe??

Diet and nutrition / question about cooked fish and sushi?
« on: January 22, 2014, 10:57:35 AM »
I have a few questions.
My first question might be really stupid...but is sushi considered paleo? Obviously stuff with rice in it would not be. But raw fish and veggie rolls would be fine right? My birthday and valentines day is coming up and one my bf and I's favorite spots is a thai and japanese restaurant and I want to make sure I can enjoy some of my fave things there.  I typically order tuna tataki which I think is just sliced raw tuna. I know I wont be able to have my fave things which are crab angels (like crab rangoon) and thai tea. So im going to try hard not to eat those!
But do you guys have any other good paleo idea options for eating out at a thai and japanese restaurant?

My other question is about cooked fish. Ive never been much of a cooked fish either, but id like to try to incorporate it into my new diet. I looked at some salmon at the fresh market and it was 19.99 a lb! Is that normal pricing?
What is a good fish to start out on...and an easy recipe for it?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Recipes and meal photos / question about paleo mayo recipe?
« on: January 22, 2014, 10:36:06 AM »
I was planning on trying out nom nom paleo's mayo recipe tonight. It calls for one egg yolk to be mixed in with some other ingredients. Im just wondering if its dangerous to eat a raw egg yolk? I use organic eggs from publix.

Does anyone have any paleo mayo recipes without the use of eggs?
