Finally logging in. Bubba just turned 1 , my weight has continued to swing between 60 - 62 ( although I'm often weighting at different times of the day wearing different clothes, I'm pretty slack about it ).

I have decided to do a serious 30day cycle, its been a while, not eating while out is challenging especially with kids, but I feel I'm ok. I was a bit sad when a group of friends were talking about BMI and told me according to it I am overweight. Maybe thats true but I don't feel overweight, way to make a tired mum feel more shit about herself lol...well keep track.

I had aimed to get down to 60kg 12 months after, it was a easy manageable target and I feel I did well to not pack on pounds. I'd like to get down to 57ish . My babe is on solids now, she pretty much eats what we do and is breastfed, no formula so I think I am mindful of not being too hard on my body while she is feeding.
She does so multiple time during the night and day, which is normal but my weight is going to fluctuate according to when she last fed. I only just returned to my normal moon cycle so I feel like now there are some changes again within my body and I need to adjust according to its needs.

I'm going back to some small work outs a couple of time a week, this is along side my normal activity ( I'm fairly active in the garden building veggie patches etc).

I'm currently researching short workouts i can manage around my baby. We still go for our regular long walks.

30 day report :)

Crap food snuck its way in on occasions but not beating myself up about it I'd get right back on the wagon next meal.

I weigh in at 60.8kg and my core strength has greatly improved. I walk heaps, garden and wear bubba. Im feeling energetic and happy. Bubba girl is fully bf and heathy (and super long!).

Another 30 day kick Im dreading christmas with inlays but hoping the pool will be a great distraction from nasty foods.

thanks  :D  this is our second. Our first is nearly 10 years old. We had unexplained fertility problems and had given up on having another. We credit a good deal of our little miracle to going paleo. hubby lost a lot of excess weight and its the only thing that we had changed. That and me taking vit d supplements.

update.

So my weight stabalized at 55kg after I put on some muscle from working out.
Hubby's weight stabalised he now rides to and from work daily and does long mountain biking on weekends.

Fertility issues - well I got pregnant...Im not sure I can attribute this to paleo or not but we suspect it made a huge difference. Healthy baby girl and we are very happy.

3 months post pregnancy and I weight in at 65kg. I had no problems during pregnancy and had a beautiful natural birth. Very different from my first experience. As Im breastfeeding I am not focused too much on weight but I worked out somewhere over the last 2 months I've lost 2kg...probably just from breastfeeding.

As we have found our new home now I am kickstarting myself by doing a 30 day challenge ( timed it for after halloween :P). Ideally I'd like to get my weight closer to 60 and I'd like to get back my core strength.

I'm looking forward to more stabalized energy, not the crash and burn I get from sugar sneaking in. Im still not eating breads, pastas etc but I have been eating rice with indian if we order out. I also have a wrap when out and about. I had been eating potatos ( mostly in meals other people cooked) but im kicking those completely, they make feel aweful.

So 30 days from Monday....can't wait :)

thanks for replying Eric.

There is definately skin and fat sagging, but I can't seem to feel my abdominal muscles...maybe its too early. Its very squishy and soft....not expecting a washboard stomach I've never  really had one but I definately had firm strong stomach muscles there before I was pregnant.

Hubby is wonderful and takes bub regularly, I could just be too hard on myself trying to be supermum so early. Thanks for the remind to go gentle with myself. much appreciated :)

yes I've been wearing her on my front in a wrap...I hadn't thought about wearing her on my back though...she is getting good head control now so I can probably think about attempting it :) thanks

My stomach is just....weak...I've lost my core strength since having cub. She is just 3 months now. I am starting to do planks ( very poor excuses for planks but I try)...and I was doing modified burpies while preggers so am thinking of starting those up and working back to full burpies again.

Any advice on how I can improve my strength? Would love to hear from other mummas. The extra weight Im carrying atm doesn't bother me so much as Im breastfeeding, but I miss the feeling of being strong that I developed over the last 2 years..feeling like Im back at square one is kinda depressing.

So 3 bears welcomed a little cub to our home recently. I did quite well for 2/3rds of my pregnancy, then I can say I ate things I don't normally.

Cub is now 3 months and I am attempting to build good habits again but Im struggling a little with juggling mummy duties, housework, home business and being just...well organised when it comes to food.

I tend to shop every 3 days or so because the men in the house like to eat ALL the food at once...its crazy. I probably need to buy more food but I worry it won't last long  ???  For example I bought a whole cooked chicken for snacking on and hubby got home from work famished and ate the entire thing  :o

Am wondering what do other paleo mummas do to keep things simple, fresh and well stocked. Help a sleep deprived mummas out here ;)

Also still embracing the idea that Im not going to loose this bubba fat anytime soon, while I am happy breastfeeding and glad its all going well....the saggy tummy is kinda depressing. I did squats through pregnancy and modified burpies....pretty much stopped after having bubba but am wanting to get back into it. I heard going to hard too fast releases toxins into breastmilk....thoughts?

Well we started the paleo 30 day challenge just after christmas - so we have been eating this way for 6 months now. My husband has gone from over 80kg to 70kg (or just under). He looks amazing. I've gone from nearly 60kg to 53kg...I think we are both still loosing a little but at a much slower rate.

There are loads of room for improvement and we have had a few challenges.

Firstly not having control of our environment - we sold our house and are living with my parents, good news is we finally found a place we liked and are waiting for settlement. The problem with not having control of our environment is a)lack of storage space for our own foods b)shared meal issues (my dad is really bad for four and breadcrumbs in food...also I've noticed they don't eat much salad). I've overcome this by trying to get into the kitchen first to cook, leaving things I don't think are great to eat and snacking on fruit, vegies nuts etc instead. I've also skipped a meal or two if I wasn't hungry and didn't want to eat what was on offer.

Second challenge - our son. He is totally loving the salads, meats, vegies etc and has become a great eater! Sadly family feel the need to offer him lollies, bread, junk food....I'm not a nazi I don't care if he has the odd treat but he doesn't need one everytime he see's someone. The worst offender being an aunt who gives him fruitbars etc which she says are "natural"....I've read the wrapper...that shit isn't natural. Anyway....I have no idea just keep battling with that one I guess.  >:(

Third challenge - *some* vegan friends and colleages.  I'm surrounded by vegetarian/vegan people. Most are really great people and we don't even discuss food much. My best friend is vegan and very supportive after some great open, honest discussions about where food comes from etc. However.....I do have one or two friends who are extremely preachy ...it annoys the crap out of me. To deal with this I've opted for silence....or a small discussion to let them know I don't eat intensively farmed meat...this is a general problem I've struggled with for some time..we have always eaten roo and fish we caught ourselves. Its the traditional foods of my family, and it still irks me that people feel the need to guilt me out over it. I don't have a problem with vegans/vegetarians... I have a problem with preachy.

Lastly, skin problems...my skin improved once I took dairy out of my diet but the hormal acne still raged and actually got a bit worse. My gp is suspecting pcos (which is linked to our unexplained infertility).  In desperation and for my own comfort I've gone on a low dose estrogen pill (yaz), its been 3 days and already I see improvement. I'd like to try going off it again, but I think I'll do that when we eventually move.

 Enough with the negative.

The BEST parts of eating this way so far have been

a) improvement in heath - hubby significant weight....I have literally no more arthritis pain!   :D
b) simplified meals - I'm not baking and slaving in the kitchen for hours!
c) feeling a deeper connection as I take in more traditional foods back into our diet.

Lastly, I think the best thing has been the improvement in my hubby's moods, he is happier, more motivated and grateful. He loves bike riding and is thinking of taking up mountain biking...he just really enjoys it.

Neither of us exercise excessively, but we feel really good about where we are and how we feel.

Improvements I'd like to see once we move:

a) I'd like to do more exercise myself, I'm an active person but I gave up yoga over 2 years and I'd like to go back to it. It was so good for back.
b) a more stricter eating pattern (using coconut oil and not olive oil) and planning my meals for the week, especially for busy days or uninspired days.
c) make more *sweets* for myself and my boy, he loves bliss balls and the avocado chocolate mousse is enough to curb any cravings he has for "lollies". I love bannana chips as a treat, once I get my dehydrator out of storage I'm set.

Lastly...planning and maintaining a kickass vegie patch....I miss my garden.

And that is where we are at, wouldn't mind hearing from other women with pcos? I'll update in a couple of months :)

interested by that Jean (homeschooling my son).

I'm having issues as we are staying with my parents they can't seem to grasp that "flour" is grains...I suffer alot of swelling in my stomach (retaining fluid) and I feel sooo much better when I don't have grains. I get so annoyed when people on the sly try to sneak things into my food - assuring me it has no potato or grains, only to find out that they have put gravox or something in.

Yep I know the answer, get in the kitchen myself...unfortunately at the moment my dad is home and he refuses to let me in to cook  :o counting down the days til he goes back to work!

How long have you been paleo for tom tom? And how long til you noticed a reduction in your digestive problems?

Forgot to add that we have cut out soft drinks and I my treats have included a little lidnt chocolate (the 85% one..its so strong I only have one square). Also iced tea...just brewed with loads of ice and the squeeze of lime, I did add a teaspoon of our local honey and it made 4 glasses of ice tea. Its really hot here!

Thought I would start a food journal, it may not be updated everyday because I'm a busy woman ;) but its will give an idea of what we are eating. We are easing ourselves into for two reasons a) we are living with my parents atm while our house is on the market, and they are not inclined to eat the way we do and b) we don't have a pantry/fridge etc to keep for ourselves. This will change tho! My dad works away and leaves next week so we are purging the pantry etc and we are excited about getting into our new house once the old one sells and setting ourselves up.

Our breakfasts have looked like this:

Day 1: Fried egg & bacon with sliced apple.

Day 2: sliced apple and pear sprinkled with almond slithers and cinnamon (so yum)

Day 3: Fried egg on thickly sliced tomato (in place of bread, I love it).

Day 4: Banana and baby spinach smoothie (added ice)

Day 5: Steamed brochili and bacon

Lunch Day 1: Lettuce wraps ( boiled egg, sliced capsicum, sliced mushroom wrapped in lettuce)
Day 2: Lamb cutlets, capsicum and tomato diced and orange slices
Day3: Cold chicken, sliced apple, handful of dried nuts and fruit (raw mix includes cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, appricot and apple)
Day 4: tin tuna, cucumber, carrots and avocado dip (avocado and lime juice).
Day 5: Handful of cashew nuts on the run, apple, guava and baby spinach with lime juice.

Dinner Day 1: Roast lamb and chicken (its christmas) roast tomato, sweet potato and brochili
Day 2: left over lamb with apple, cucumber and carrots diced.
Day 3: Homemade sausages (dads), tomato, onion and mushroom in vinegar ( bleugh) and lettuce, carrot, beetroot salad.
Day 4: Steamed fish in oven ( brim we caught), capsicum, lettuce, carrot, mushroom and sliced apple.
Day 5:  havn't had it yet but its lamb chops and a salad.

Snacks: havn't been that "snacky" surprisingly, we have a mixed dried fruit/nut which we dip into when we feel hungry. Or we just grab and apple ...I did on day 3 get hungry and fry up two lamb cutlets.
Hubby is liking a boiled egg or two in the afternoons, or grabbing a tin of tuna.
I like the carrots/cucumber sticks with our avocado dip.


I weighted just under 60 kg and hubby 85kg.  I've dropped to 57kg (checked this morning) most of it is I believe the excess fluid I've been carrying (hey that time of month) waiting to see if its slowly creeps back on.
I grabbed a handful of cashews this afternoon without realising they are salted, I now feel a bit more bloated and am thinking I should steer clear of them and stick to the raw nut/fruit thing for emergencies. I don't always have time to fry something up as I'm on the run most days, but will reach for tin tuna in future instead.

Any comments suggestions are welcome, more so if they are constructive and helpful :)
