I've been away a long time too but it sure feels good to be back :) Must be the fall that's getting me back in gear! Dang potatoes have become a dreadful weakness for me--other than that we seem to have similar eating habits and cheese...I think i lived on it for the last month so I'm cutting back some on that but it is my other weakness for sure! off to cook a roast  :)

For some reason I never liked potatoes! But I do love cheese! I really like roasts, but I typically can't force myself to cook anything more than just putting some ingredients in a pan and frying them for ten or so minutes... :)

Unfortunately, I fell off the good eating plan for a good three months, but now both me and my husband have started again last week. I have gained a lot of weight back. I haven't weighed myself, but I probably weigh at least 65kg again. I would like to lose the weight, but I also want to make sure not to restrict myself too much so I don't stop this way of eating.

Today:
Breakfast - coffee with cream
Snacks - cheese stick, almonds, 5 tiny tomatoes, 2 radishes, tried a gross wild citrus fruit that I picked off a tree that I was walking by, and sweet potato and beet chips
Lunch - tuna salad wrapped in lettuce with cheese, tomato, and cucumber.
Dinner - fried chicken, egg salad with imitation crab sticks, and some peas (husband really wanted them :) )
Now drinking wine and eating raw coconut from the shell.

Wow, I haven't been on here for a long time, but I am still eating somewhat Paleo. I have started eating dairy quite  a bit and I'm not seeing any adverse effects, so I will continue doing that. Other than that, I think I've been pretty good! Husband now only eats Paleo at home, but it seems to be working for him.

Today:

Breakfast:coffee with half & half, cottage cheese with strawberries and a little honey

Lunch: fried seafood (clams, shrimp, etc) with curry spices.

Yesterday:
coffee; lettuce wrap with tuna; unsweet ice tea; salad with avocado, tomatoes, and cucumbers; fried peppers, fried brussel sprouts, beef; wine.

The day before:
coffee; fried beef with scrambled eggs; salad with avocado, tomatoes, and cucumbers; fried peppers, fried brussel sprouts, beef; wine.

The day before:
coffee; rare steak and eggs; fried sweet potatoes; zucchini "fries"; wine

Don't remember before that. But I have started eating much more fish, so I'm quite happy with that. I have also gotten over my hatred of zucchini and other vegetables.

I can't believe it's been almost half a year already! I feel pretty good (and weigh in at a stable 61kg. I started at 67!)

Hi everyone,

I was hoping that more knowledgeable members can give me their opinions on fruit consumption. I have always been told that fruit are necessary in the diet for vitamins. Is this true? Are there any vitamins/ nutrients that can only be found in fruit?

The reason I ask is because my sister is eating a low-carb high-fat diet (basically Paleo but with lots of dairy) and she never eats any fruit or berries. Can this be harmful in the long run?

I have noticed in myself that I don't find fruit appealing anymore at all. However, I absolutely love berries.

Cats are obligatory carnivores and should therefore only eat meat, bone, and organs. Just buy different types of cuts of meat and let her have a taste (don't cook them, give them raw!) As some cats are quite picky, you might have to convince your cat that what you are giving is actually food. Start simple (like chicken backs, necks, wings), then progress to other animals (turkey, quail, pork, beef parts), then some fish, then organs (liver, kidney, etc). Ask your butcher if there are any meat scraps you can pick up. Don't cook anything though, as cooked bones are dangerous!

I would also advise against live feeding as that would constitute torture for the mice. If you're comfortable, you can "pre-kill" the mouse by putting it in a paper bag and hitting it against a wall. Or buy them frozen at a pet store. I doubt  it would matter nutritionally if your cat is eating mice (much more expensive in the long run) or poultry/ pork/ beef/ fish/ etc (quite cheap).

Good luck and your cat will thank you for the switch! No matter how "good" the kibble that you're feeding now is, it is still highly processed garbage. Would you feed your kids enhanced cereal? The rate of diabetes and kidney stones in cats is astronomical and we have the pet food industry to blame...

Huge cheat day yesterday. I tried an experiment on myself because I felt that I was having a hard time not thinking about the diet and worrying about what I'm eating (which is so different from the first few weeks I had), so I decided to see what would happen if I let myself enjoy a day of terrible food (which I haven't done in a couple of weeks). I had a meeting, where they served homemade break, cheese, chips, etc, which I ate. Then I came home and figured that since we're having a cheat day, might as well go all out and ordered a large pizza with extra cheese, mushrooms, and chicken.

I woke up feeling crappy as expected, but I feel much more determined now and ready to tackle the week. I think I have to keep these weekly cheat days going to remind myself that I'm actually not missing much and how bad it makes me feel after.

I was also relieved to think I had spares.

This seems so cold... You can't think of someone you love being able to be simply replaced.. I would probably replace my belongings, even my dog, but not my husband, sister, parents.

There are many other ways to pleasure each other without actual "sex". I stopped taking pills and got my IUD out because it was affecting my health in serious ways. I'm a strong opponent now of extra hormones in the name of contraception. We also dislike condoms, but we dislike babies more!

Just work on finding other ways to enjoy each other sexually and if you really must go there, use a condom for those times. You'll be surprised how rarely you will have to use one!

Also, make sure the condoms that you buy actually are the right size for your partner. They are much more uncomfortable if they're too small.

yes.. so expensive though!

dinner yesterday: 2 tilapia filets, mushrooms, and collard greens, cucumber

breakfast: eggs, bacon. Coffee with almond/ coconut milk

lunch: barely seared steak, collard greens

snacks: cucumber, coconut milk "ice cream" with a few raspberries (I poured a little coconut milk over the berries and put it in the freezer for 15 min)

dinner: I have broccoli and ribs in the slow cooker for later.

Did my shopping!



Drinks: orange juice (for husband), plain kefir

Meat: seafood medley (octopus, calamari, shrimp, mussels), frozen mussels, fresh tilapia steaks, beef steaks, boneless pork spare ribs, ground beef chuck (20% fat), ground turkey, bacon (no sugar added), frozen chicken tenderloins, eggs

Vegetables: cauliflower, broccoli, avocado, mushroom, cucumber, collard greens, radishes

Miscellaneous: coconut milk, grass-fed butter

No nuts, no cheese, and no fruit! Also, my little pet carnivore under the table is hoping all that meat is for her!

I decided to really buy the meat as we seem to run out within a few days of shopping typically. This way, I will have no excuses for not eating properly.

Anyone have any cooking suggestions for these ingredients? I'm thinking of frying the tilapia with some collard greens and mushrooms for dinner.

lunch:
Taco salad (lettuce, tomatoes, tons of chicken, onions, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, cheese) and an unsweet ice tea.

Sour cream is not so good, even as a "primal" dairy. Apart from dairy proteins, it's not fully fermented and has some sugar.

"Cheese" if it's processed cheese is not necessarily dairy only.

Salsa usually has bad veg oil in it.

Thank you for your thoughts! It definitely helps to hear criticisms of the foods!

I had another crappy day yesterday:
Morning: coffee with coconut milk/almond milk (need to use the carton up, wont buy anymore)
Lunch: smoothie with blueberries, strawberries, spinach, raspberries, coconut milk
Dinner: scavenging around the house- 1 bottle of beer, summer sausage (quite gross), chicken from a can with mayonnaise and pickled jalapeno peppers.

Ate very little and unhealthy yesterday :( Have put in grocery shopping on the agenda for today.

Time for some public shaming:

I really shouldn't have indulged in the sugar as much as I did for the past few days, since I'm having difficulty getting back on track. These carbs are really addicting, aren't they!

Yesterday I ate a bunch of deli meats, cheese sticks, salsa from a can, beer, wine, chocolate (milk, not dark), a bunch of fruit. Although I did have a nice salad for lunch with eggs and turkey. I guess all of this isn't as bad as I used to eat, but I was doing so much better before! I also gained a kilo back :( I really want to get back on track and I think I need to get some grocery shopping done so I have readily available food instead of random things that I forage on...

Breakfast:
coffee with coconut milk

lunch:
Taco salad (lettuce, tomatoes, tons of chicken, onions, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, cheese) and an unsweet ice tea.

Dinner:
will probably go shopping and get some nice meat with vegetables in.

Not sure what will be on the menu today, but I need to finish up the fruit that are in my fridge. I think after this fruit binge, I won't be able to look at another fruit for weeks!

I surprised myself yesterday. We had friends come over and they brought chips, beer, bread and salsa, etc. Somehow I didn't have any cravings for any of these foods anymore. I even managed to feed them some of the fruit that it's in the fridge! I just drank green tea when they were here and it felt great! I think I no longer have the urge to eat everything that's in front of me, which is great.

I am reaching a plateau with weight loss, but I can imagine my birthday sugar intake and this constant flow of fruit isn't helping much...
