Diet and nutrition / What to drink at the pub
« on: May 26, 2011, 07:26:03 AM »
I have several events to go to this year when drinking alcohol has always been part of the event. If I don't have alcohol, don't like water, coke or diet coke are out.... What would be the least harmful to this WOE. Juice is full of sugar.
Suggestions gratefully received.
I find it very difficult.

I am sure much more scientific studies or articles have been put up here but I found this clearly explained.

Hope this is right. If the article is not helpful, feel free to remove.

Diet and nutrition / OK guys... I am on straight paleo.
« on: May 16, 2011, 03:30:09 AM »
I am losing weight slowly but would like to devise a programme to optimise weight loss. I walk every day about a mile and I am trying to swim every day or every other day as a minimum.

What should I avoid? All fruit? Nuts?

Yesterday I had two satsumas - a load of good quality roast rib of beef and a handful of macadamias. Water, lime juice and herbal tea.

I don't think I can factor any more exercise in. Unless the resistance machines in gym are better than the pool.
I have about 7 weeks to achieve something noticeable.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Check out the price!

Given that it is the Daily Mail, I wouldn't take this with too much seriousness.

Diet and nutrition / Oh bother! :( just been to Doctors
« on: April 06, 2011, 04:02:26 AM »
I have osteo arthritis starting in my left hip.

Recommended 8 paracetamol a day

Lose at least two stone in weight

Exercise more

Eat less fat - well poo to that!!

Exercise - yes I must

Stop cheating to lose weight - yes I must

Does anyone have any information about the use of paracetamol (tylenol) in osteo arthritis. I do not have pain when I walk only on some movements like crossing my legs and such. I am reluctant to take a load of pain killers full time. Especially paracetamol which hurts ones liver.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks
Kris

Diet and nutrition / Paleo and Mood

Has anyone else noticed being very short-tempered, more aggressive (not Physically) and feeling more stressed on this way of eating.

I am eating almost zero carbs, good quality fatty meat, a few nuts and the odd orange.

I seem to be really bad-tempered. I wonder if it is the WOE or just February, general stress etc.

All thoughts gratefully received. :)

Someone said prevention is better than cure. Yep. That's obvious.
so I looked to see what the perceived wisdom is about prevention.

See this link.
Sigh half right and at least half wrong!

Your thoughts?

Diet and nutrition / Vanilla
« on: October 14, 2010, 07:49:31 AM »
Hi guys. Still here although I realise I haven't been posting. Still on-trace although my weight has plateaued. I really wonder if this is where I am supposed to be and I just need to tighten it all up now!

Anyway, question. If I use real vanilla and not vanilla flavouring, is this OK. I have find I like coffee (non-paleo) with a vanilla taste.

Thoughts? I don't need it. It's just nice.
Thanks.

Research / B vitamins and Alzheimers alleviation delay

Why supplements. Why not seek the vitamin b in the diet and what about the cancer risks.

What else can we find on this.

Can anyone suggest. I have been eating mainly meat alone and my favourite is lamb chops, pork chops and steak.

this is rather expensive.

I wonder if anyone else is managing on a tight budget.

Sometimes when I am out and about, I cannot manage as much fat as I would normally eat at home.

I find that when I don't have enough, my circulation suffers and I get cold hands and feet, even when the weather is warm.

Does anyone else have this problem. My circulation has always been excellent but lack of fat = chilliness.

Parenting / Cows milk for small children
« on: August 08, 2010, 10:38:30 AM »
When I was at school... I left at age 18 in 1970 - they still gave us a free 1/3 pint of milk a day. We mostly ignored it. The majority of it went off and was thrown away.

I had no idea they were still giving cows milk to all children up to age 7 from age 3 (nursery)
Couple of days ago they said they were stopping this to save the money. 40m. plus.
Today the PM said no they were going to keep it.

Why on earth are we giving this to small children? SO bad for them.

I feel quite depressed about this. A 'health spokesperson' on the radio said today the children need it for healthy bones. :(
