Diet and nutrition / Re: The men who made us fat

Good find.

There is good and bad. Although increasing farm output is linked to obesity it also keeps food prices lower which makes it easier for low income people to feed their families.

Research / Re: Agriculture shrinks brains!
« on: August 12, 2012, 09:50:12 PM »
Brains may have shrunk some but not intelligence. We landed an robotically controlled spacecraft on a planet 154 million miles away. That was a greater technical challenge than landing on the moon. During the moon landing the astronauts had to take manual control after the computer started spelling out system errors.  Well, at least somebody is still smart. Maybe not me.

Was that b4 or after starting paleo, Curmudge?

I've been paleo since 2006. Yes that was after going paleo.

Diet and nutrition / Robb Wolf - Paleo is expensive (NOT)

This way of eating, like virtually any way of eating, can be made much more, or mush less expensive.

Miscellaneous / Where are you on the global fat scale?
« on: July 16, 2012, 04:39:11 PM »
This from BBC Health News allows you to compare yourself to your country and globally.

I know BMI is not 100% accurate especially if you are weight lifter but it is an estimate.

Introductions / Re: Hello from a former vegan. :-)
« on: July 03, 2012, 10:46:28 AM »
Welcome. I was once a vegan. Followed McDougal by the book. Got two cataracts (at age 46), acid reflux, high triglycerides and high fasting glucose.

Diet and nutrition / Re: Paleo Bread!

It is the same thing as Metamucil - the fiber supplement / laxative. Metamucil is psyllium and artificial flavor, and cost 3 times as much as plain psyllium.

However,  the intake of dietary fiber could hinder the absorption of vitamins, minerals, and proteins. This is especially true of adding supplemental dietary fiber.

Anthony Colpo has been hell bent against low carb since he tried Atkins diet about 10 years ago and lost his energy and stamina.  He has been on a flame war and tirade against Michael Eades for a few years. He is also against low fat. But he will sell you his diet book.

Introductions / Re: Paleo Hiker checking in!

Hi Jeanette. Welcome.  I have been here since 2007. I used to be more active. In fact I was once a moderator. But now I'm just a dork.

I'd be all for it if I had a personal testimony, but I was never diabetic, so I wouldn't be comfortable with this particular area. I've been having a mico-effect on my office since people recently started noticing my body composition changing drastically and rapidly. People can't stop asking me about it, and I am always happy to chat away about Paleo.

I think your approach was good though!

I think it is better to answer questions of people that you interact with on a daily, weekly or monthly basis than invading other places.  Even people you haven't seen in years will say 'hey what did you do?'   There has been plenty of information out there for the past 40+ years that the ADA approach usually fails.

The Facebook NAZIs won't allow you to disagree with the beliefs of a page owner.  They have an automated system that pops up and warns you that your comment is irrelevant. If that doesn't work the suspend you from making comments for 3 days or lock you out of your account.  Second offense you get 7 days and then 30 days.
