Warren, I have 2 coffees a day :) 1 is black, the other with the Zymil... I'm trying :)

Jean, that's really good!! Its a slow process convincing others. Our other kids will hopefully see the benefits one day when their sister starts looking and feeling better. Im hoping her skin will clear up also ....

Well I've never stuck to a diet this long before...or lifestyle change.. In saying that, Xmas was a washout... We had family here and decided to forgo paleo for a few days. So I ate chips, and cheesecake and chocolates and even pizza etc. Only thing I really enjoyed was the chocolates, although not all of them. Things just didnt taste the same.

My paleo diet hasnt been 100%. I still have my coffee with zymil milk once a day. I put up with the belly grumblings. We also like the 85% chocolate from Lindt. And we make a few cakes for our sweet tooth with almond meal etc. When we have been stuck without paleo on the road, or due to circumstances, I'll admit we go to Maccas. I will order the big beef burger with no cheese, and throw the buns away. Except for xmas I've really found it hard to break paleo, I talk myself out of it. And the other cheat I have is apple turnover with fresh cream...in times of great stress!!! But Ive even gone off them now.

Our diet still consists of mostly roast lamb, fish, chicken, eggs, veggies, fruit and we consume quite a few nuts. We have beef occasionally but have only just found grass fed beef near us and its super expensive. We're working on it.

I've had my bloods done and my cholesterol was up but my doc said my good cholesterol was up so it wasn't a 'bad' report. He said he'll keep an eye on it.

My constipation problem goes when I'm strictly paleo. The last few days it was broken with sugars as I had a colonoscopy and banding and the diet didnt leave much paleo options. The last two days being liquid only and that was mainly lemonade and water. Also jellies the day before, so my sugars have taken a hit in the last few days. I was discharged this evening with instructions to follow a 'high fibre diet'. I said yes I will, plenty of fruit and veggies.

My weight when i started was around 73kg give or take I think. Im currently about 56kg. That was a bit lower but I felt too low and I've had trouble actually keeping the weight on. Hubby is still on paleo with me, 6 mths for him. He has more fruits and breaks it with sweet potato etc as he does triathlons and crossfit.

I ran my first 10k marathon in October and finished in just over an hour (I think it was closer to 11km). I did have 'runners diarrhoea' afterwards but thats a huge achievement for me. I havent run since though because of the things I had to get fixed today.

We have only managed to convert one of our daughters to Paleo and she is only new and struggling with it as she doesnt like a lot of things on the diet. We'll see how she goes.

All in all Paleo has made me lose weight, get regular toilet habits, nose congestion disappears, I got fitter, and I can taste foods. :)

Any thoughts welcome, even telling me about how naughty I still am. Oh and I've converted quite a few friends now to Paleo :) :)

Diet and nutrition / Trying to find a post

Hi, Hi!

Took me a bit to come back on here...and forgot my password...Anyway, I read a post on here before about making your own little alternative to the bike gel packs. It was something like almond butter, honey?, raisins etc and you put it in a baggy and cut the corner off. I've searched every possible post I thought it was under and can't find it. Does anyone know the post or the recipe? For a triathlete and for long bike rides also.
Thanks :)
Will update how bad I have been....(only over xmas)

:)

Youre not alone....Ive battled many a time and broken down also.

We went away a few weeks ago and hubby packed the food and wasnt as organised as I usually am. We decided to go out for dinner for burgers as we'd both been thinking about them. I figured it wasnt as bad as some things I could have. They came with chips of course and I had one chip and then realised the potato tasted so bland and I could taste the oil more than the actual chip.
I had 2 bites of the burger with the bun then I just felt bad eating the bun. Id broken it by having sauce on the burger anyway. I ended up eating the meat and tomato and lettuce and onion and leaving the buns and chips. I still enjoyed it anway.
That was a bigger one but Ive had lots of sweet cravings and bought an almond cookie that a shop near me makes. Everything paleo but the sugar she uses in them. Tasted sooo sweet and I didnt really enjoy it.

Now a few nights ago I had a major craving. I used to be such an addict for chips/crisps and I was craving them badly. Id bought my daughter and her friend a big bag of Toobs... dont know if you know what they are...anyway I had THREE of them. Thats it. They tasted too salty and not really that great... And then I got an asthma attack from them and couldnt breathe the rest of the night properly. Even after taking ventolin twice. And my mouth was all tingly and horrible. Got a headache the next day.
So I know that will be enough to deter me from those but it doesnt mean there wont be other times. We've been eating this type of food for 30 or more years, its hard to break habits of that long. I know I feel better and Ive lost stacks of weight and look very toned now. And Im running my first mini marathon. But I know there will be something that I cant say no to down the track and thats just life. :)

Ok, I was wondering about the effect also because Ive had some changes too. Not for the better though. My period has always been heavy and lasts for 5 days and had all the usual things, cravings, sore breasts, cramps, back pain. Now its super heavy and painful, so much more so, and very intense for 3 days. I mean so bad with the cramps and pain now that I cant sleep and Im lucky its happened on weekends because I would never be able to work with the pain Ive been in. Im wondering if its the same thing with the cramps in the legs and magnesium is the cure for this pain also. Its not fun :(

Recipes and meal photos / Energy/snack cookies

We make these to snack on while out or after a jog or crossfit class.

2 cups almond meal
2 eggs
2 teaspoons macadamia oil
1 spoonful honey
This is the base, mix it all together and then add what you want. We add flaked coconut, any nuts we have on hand, usually walnuts or pecans, chopped up. Cocoa nibs (85%), small spoon of cocoa powder, 85% . Mix those in also and then spread on a baking tray lined with baking paper. I usually cover with another sheet of baking paper and roll it out that way. Get it quite thin. Bake at about 180celsius, it doesnt take long. Cut while still warm. Yummy and gets rid of those cravings....

I get the leg cramps too and they only ease when I take Magnesium. Mainly in the calf. I did a jog the other day and had it bad in one calf for a few days. I took magnesium straight away and it helped.

Its a few months in now on paleo...Im still having a few cheats but my stomach seems to have settled down now. Im not as energetic as I was at the beginning but that could have something to do with late nights also.
The food we are eating stays along the same lines mostly....

Breakfast either scrambled eggs or omelette with mushrooms, tomatoes, onion, bacon.
Morning tea snack is either a couple of boiled eggs or a banana.
Lunch is either leftovers from dinner or tuna, tomato and avocado. These are generally tinned ones in oil.
Dinner is fish or lamb or chicken with whatever veggies we have on hand. We make a couple of things regularly like coconut curry with either chicken or prawns...

We eat quite a lot of strawberries and hubby loves his fruit. Mandarins and bananas.
I cheat once a day with a capuccino that the milk bar next door to work makes with Zymil milk for me.

The other things that are not really paleo but have eased cravings which are still happening...Choc Orange cake made with almond meal, cocoa powder and 1/3 cup honey. And I make cookies from almond meal, eggs, macadamia oil, nuts, coconut and a spoonful of honey. Makes a big batch for all of us to snack on.

We had 2 breakouts so far..one was normal pizza and we had cheesecake and choc pudding and we were both sick. Last night was an 18th and we shared a slice of sponge cake. He ate the icing and cake, I ate the fresh cream and some sponge cake. Probably about 4 mouthfuls. No side effects from that.

I guess thats about it, I know the zymil and coffee arent great but I dont seem to have any effects from it. I get more stomach problems if I have any cream. And I buy the purest I can find. My weight has stayed the same for ages now... 63kg and doesnt seem to change very much.

Still have cramps in the legs but Ive been taking magnesium. Thats flavoured and we cant get magnesium cream here that I read about somewhere else. It eases the cramps...
Any comments welcome....

Havent updated in a while but my diet is along the same lines although my appetite has declined a lot and I can't seem to eat much. I've also had the heartburn and diarrhea has been rampant the last 4 days.

I stopped coffee for 4 days to see if that was causing the heartburn but still got it. The diarrhea could be the diet or because I had to go into a gastroenteritis quarantined nursing home this week.

I've been sticking to it pretty much and also got a primal recipe book and I'm comparing recipes as in what's allowed etc.

Yes I think it may be the coffee and if that doesn't work I'll try the egg whites.

And yes I may have to go to bare paleo for a bit and stop with the cakes, just me eating them, I have to still make them for the family. :)

I do as much of that as I can. Unfortunately I have a family that gets bored very easily with food and want lots of variety. So I'm always trying to find new recipes for them.
It's freezing during the day where I work and hubby eats lots being so athletic and tuna and salad or salmon and salad just don't cut it.

I have the same for breakfast every day, scrambled eggs, but hubby was bored with that very quickly and needs more. He has bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomato every morning. He eats scads of food. He exercises 4-5 nights a week and on the weekends bikes or swims or works around the house. He's in and out of the kitchen all day hunting for food.

As I said, it's just my situation and having to feed 4 fussy ppl isn't easy. I think you must be very lucky with your family :)
