Beef dripping is in the margarine section at all supermarkets. I've been using that. Usually near the copha.

I might be sensitive to cinnamon then...

Last few days...

Scrambled eggs, coffee, black and with lactose free milk.
Fish and salad and fried pumpkin. The fish and pumpkin fried in macadamia oil.
A few spoonfuls of cashew butter/paste.
Prawn sauté made with spices and coconut milk and cashew paste. Cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, onion.
Strawberries and mandarin.
Boiled eggs.
Paleo pizza...crust ..almond meal, coconut flour, salt, egg.
Topping tomato paste,chicken,spinach,avocado,bacon,red onion.
Pizza was yum and very filling and my non paleo/primal daughter liked it but she had a sprinkle of cheese on hers :)
Leftover chocolate avocado mousse.

Diet and nutrition / A few more questions...
« on: June 24, 2011, 05:05:14 AM »
So I finally have managed to peruse some paleo books finally and have noticed a few differences that I'm still unsure about.

Canola oil...good or bad?
Same for flaxseed and flaxseed oil.
Butter, recommended quite a bit even though its not paleo..Why?
Coconut oil listed as bad in one book, good in others..personal choice?
Eggs....seems to be a toss up for moderation or go for it.
Cream, not paleo but preferable to milk.

That's just a couple of questions, I also ate a pkt of chips today....ingredients...Beetroot ,organic palm olein oil, sea salt... Is that oil on the banned list? :)

So he hasn't been eating paleo yet? Only a heart healthy diet?

Crispy duck sounds yum. I've never tried it. I have some books finally by Cordain and you need your veggies and greens from what I'm reading :) Although there seems to be a few things that are different to what I read on here...

Even though I'm only a Learner paleo :) I'm going to comment... Forget about the bread.

I noticed you don't seem to eat many vegetables?

I'll have to stop good and bad and maybe go with 'glitches' lol

Think I've narrowed down the heartburn to the nutty cookie :( it has a fair bit of cinnamon in it and I'm thinking that's the cause of my heartburn. I'll know tomorrow, just the soup,no cookie.

I never had much of a sweet tooth before, more a savoury girl. Walking past packets of chips still kills me. I even saw pkts af sweet potato and taro chips and would have got them but for reading all the added ingredients.

Today's menu caused me a lot of grief.
Scrambled eggs done in butter with water.
Boiled egg for morning tea and a nutty cookie(cheat)
Lunch was leftover pumpkin, leek, chicken soup..the grief being after lunch and for the whole afternoon I've had heartburn. So I resorted to trying some milk to ease it and a tsp of mustard and some almonds. I'd have drunk apple cider vinegar if I could have.
I don't know which item has caused the heartburn, I haven't had it for years :(
The soup was fine last night and I didn't have heartburn. The nutty cookie? The only non paleo was the tsp of baking powder which is spread over 20+ cookies?
I'm doing a roast lamb and vegetables for dinner when I feel up to it.

I found the tub of duck fat in IGA supermarket. It was in the section with the butter and margarine. I used it on pumpkin but was a bit disappointed as they didn't crisp up like using the chicken fat.

Good news then! I really am trying to get my head around it all. It seems his good cholesterol has gone up though :) Does the doc know he's doing the diet?

Yes it's very disheartening when it's so hard to come by. I saw some roo steaks and fillets in IGA today and was tempted. I'm unsure how to cook it though. I've heard that it can be tough if not cooked the right way.
I bought a small lamb roast for tonight, I figured I'd be safe with that.

Diet and nutrition / Prosciutto
« on: June 19, 2011, 05:51:02 AM »
In my quest for bacon without the chemicals I came across prosciutto in the supermarket. Very very expensive and sliced so thinly...but ingredients listed just pork and salt. Thoughts on whether it's worth getting?
