I've never gotten too much into fancy dressings, I've always done oil and vinegar or oil and lemon juice, but have you tried apple cider vinegar as the base of yours? It might be a little sweeter than red wine or white vinegar. Also- you could try coconut sugar or a freshly squeezed fruit juice to cut the tartness.
Not sure that helped you too much, but I hope you find a solution!

So, I've been on and off paleo for a while. I mainly fall off the wagon when I'm running low on funds and need to shop cheaper or rely on what my mother- who refuses to try a paleo diet- is making. But I do my best with staying as paleo as possible. I fell off paleo for a couple of months a while back, and developed a terrible case of plantars fasciitis. One of my jobs has all cement floors and are not very kind to anyone's feet. When I returned to paleo, within a week of 100% strict eating, all the pain in my feet was gone. I couldn't believe it.
Every once in a while I stumble very far off paleo for a little while, and the pain in my feet comes back.
Has anyone else had anything similar to this happen? Does anyone have any suggestions for movements or excersizes I can do to keep this from happening for when I slip up?

I'm sure no one on this site lives in CT, but there's a healthfood store here that grinds their own nut butters- both peanut and almond. I'm betting if you research any kind of local health food store, or hippy food store, you might be able to score a place that grinds there own- with no added oils or sugars.

So, a health food store I work at is going to start carrying these new raw wraps because they're delicious, fold well, and are overall healthy.
You can checkout the link to see what the wraps are. Someone mentioned they were paleo, and I questioned it because they have quinoa. Quinoa is not strict paleo, correct? I know it's technically a seed, but it has grain-like properties which is why I thought it wasn't..
Just thought I'd question it on here and see what your thoughts are on quinoa and paleo.

Does anyone have any tips on staying hydrated? I seem to keep going through cycles of drinking almost no water for days, and then having times where I stay perfectly hydrated for days. Currently I'm at that point where I'm struggling to stay hydrated, simply because I have a labor intensive outdoor job at a park, and I just don't realize I haven't had anything to drink until I'm at the point of a headache.
This sounds silly, but I really just forget to drink water and don't notice until it's too late. Does anyone else ever have this problem?

Hello All!
I am going on a week long hiking trip in April, and I'm trying to plan for food. And in the past I haven't been very successful... So I'm looking for some advice.

Over the holiday season, I stopped eating paleo, but I've since returned to paleo and have finally broken the sugar cravings and my energy levels are back to normal and I'm feeling MUCH better.
I have a hiatal hernia and GERD which makes things a little difficult. Anytime I work out really hard- I get really nauseas and struggle to keep food down, and every exhausting hike I've been on, I puke and lose all my energy and I tend to feel very cold. This has been consistent over the past few years. I've been hiking a lot and have been going to the gym regularly, but I still get pretty nauseas after a good workout. I do not take any medication for GERD because I made the decision to try to fix it through my diet instead of staying on pills for the rest of my life. So far- I've done pretty well with that except for strenuous workouts. I DO drink apple cider vinegar to help with my symptoms.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem? Does anyone have any food suggestions to bring on the trip? Any tricks to calm nausea while hiking? I managed to calm my stomach down earlier after going to the gym with a banana blueberry smoothie with hemp seed.

So far for food, im planning on making my own jerky, bringing mixed nuts, some celery with almond butter, bananas, and probably some apples.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

They had slabs of it for sale at the health food store I work at, and they were pretty thick. I tried slicing it in bacon sized strips, but I somehow managed to cook it to almost nothing (which I'm sure is normal when the fat cooks off), and it wound up just being too fatty and greasy to eat. I'm guessing I just didn't prepare it well enough.
I'll try cooking it in the oven next time though so it cooks more evenly.

So, since the holidays, I've managed to fall off the paleo wagon. With eating out at other peoples houses and just eating what's been available, I've started to feel crappy, unhealthy, run down, and I've gained weight. I've been working on eating paleo the past 2 weeks or so, but somehow over the course of the past couple months, I've developed an unhealthy relationship with sugar. I had started getting drinks at Starbucks..... And I'm not sure if that's where it started or not, but I'm struggling to break the sugar habit.
I have since returned to drinking just plain black coffee over the past month (which I actually enjoy more than lattes anyways), but I'm noticing that if I go a day or two with no added sugars in any food, I start getting adgitated and think about foods with sugar. I've never really had this problem before- even when I initially started paleo a while back. It clearly shows it's addictive qualities in sugar.
Any suggestions? Could it be the foods I'm eating? Think I should give up fruit for a while until the cravings go away? I do tend to eat sweet potatoes a lot... Probably once or twice a week- though thats not really unusual for my old paleo habits. Any chance this is causing my inability to kick the sugar habit?

On a side note: I work at an all natural and organic hippy food store- and I'm surrounded by baked goods half the time because I work in the prepared foods department. Which- I'm pretty sure is adding to my delemma here.

So I found this paleo sesame chicken recipe online and made it tonight.  It was absolutely awesome, and honestly just tasted like a healthier version of the real thing you get in the resturaunts. I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with you :-)

I know some people who eat paleo don't eat honey, but I do, and it's included in the recipe.

How long have you been paleo for?
After a few months, those cravings will go away (at least for me they did). What I do, is have a peice of dark chocolate when I'm on my period. Savor it, don't just pop it in your mouth and eat it.
If your craving something crunchy, dig into a bag of baby carrots. You'll get full eventually, and so long as you don't eat bags of them a week, I can't see any harm in feasting on carrots for crunchy cravings.

I just thought of this based on a dish we have at work, and I have not tried this (but I will at some point), but you could try sprinkling some mustard powder on the carrots and mixing it up in a bowl, to give it that salty flavor your looking for. At my work, they make a carrot mustard side dish with cashews, but they cook the carrots. Couldn't hurt to try it raw so they're still crunchy. If I have the time, I'll try the mustard carrots and report back on the idea.

Does everyone experience the low carb flu? I've gone on and off of paleo a few times over the past 5 years and once starting paleo again, I've always felt remarkably better than ever by the end of the first week and I have no issues losing weight from it. I've never had that feeling of feeling unwell or lack of energy. Am I weird? I hear all the time that people changing over to a paleo lifestyle go through a period of feeling worse before they get better. I'm just curious if I'm doing something wrong if I don't go through this.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I never saw your question. Coconut oil doesn't really taste like coconut milk. But I'm curious if you had coconut milk, or coconut water. Did it have added sugars?
Coconut oil doesn't have as strong of a flavor, but your food will have that faint taste of coconut. If you like curry, try using coconut oil to cook the veggies and meat, and it will compliment the curry flavor. I've used coconut oil to even make eggs when it was all I had available- I thought it was pretty good, just different. When you buy the coconut oil, it will be in a solid form in a jar and trust me, you really don't need a lot of it.
As for the coconut butter. If you don't like the flavor of the coconut milk or water, the coconut butter is much stronger than the oil. It's pretty much the coconut meat just puréed into a butter. The texture can be a little dry.
