Diet and nutrition / Re: Is butter such a no-no?

Organic Valley makes a great grassfed butter.  It comes in half pound, green packages.

I have this problem as well.  Probably the fruit with the most carbs that I can digest is bananas.  I do berries and tubers (not potatoes) for the rest of my carbs (I feel best at 50-100).  My diet is boring, but my digestion is super.  ;D  I mostly eat meat, fat, carrots, yams, berries, and bananas.

I agree with Tarlach...sometimes we just get sick.  I got a bad one a few weeks ago..H1N1 specifically.  It swept through my son's school.  We all got sick.  It happened, and we got better.  Everyone gets sick sometimes.  I think we need to every once in awhile to keep our immune systems running well.

Getting sick only once in 10 years is astonishing.  I've been sick twice since my son started school in September. I do get sick much less, and less severe than before paleo...but I do get sick.

Welcome!  I wish I had found this WOE so young.  Good for you!  I, also, have noticed much improved skin.  I get compliments all the time on how good I look, which is just so weird.  I have been on paleo for only 9 months now, but it's changed my life.  I'm nearly 50 pounds lighter and just so much happier.  ;D

Diet and nutrition / Re: Scenerio: no paleo food around...

If I'm not terribly hungry, I fast.  If I really need food, I have been known to go to wendy's and order a bunless burger.  They are great and serve it on a plastic platter thing with a fork. (I've done this 2-3 times in 9 months) I don't think it ever touches a bun.  They also didn't bat an eye when I ordered it that way.  Of course they looked at me like I had two heads when I insisted that my son get water instead of the sugary orange drink that came with his meal.  ???

I, too, have had to buy new clothes.  In fact, I've had to buy all new winter clothes.  My weight loss is at 45 pounds now.  I'm down to a size 8 from an 18.  ;D  My next project is taking in my Halloween costume from a couple years ago so I can wear it in a few weeks.

I totally agree with the ladies on the body types.  Men definitely look better built like Tarlach to me.  It seems natural.

If you want to look like a bodybuilder, that do what you have to do...but that's not the natural state of what a human should look like.

Honestly the pain is mild and not persistent.  I just keep busy, maybe have some warm tea, and breathe through it.  I think your pain must have been way worse than mine.  I do take a magnesium supplement, which I have heard helps too (it tends to relax muscles..makes sense).

No, I don't take any pain meds.  I finally got my stomach working right, and I don't want to compromise it. Honestly, a warm bath or a heating bad is all I need when it's at it's worst (or a glass of wine if you're so inclined).  Walking or doing some kind a physical activity helps too. I've got it pretty easy though...only about 5 days total, with only 2 days having any cramps at all.  Also, not using tampons helps immensely. I use cloth pads mostly, and I swear it helps.

Diet and nutrition / Re: Wake up time - natural or aided?
« on: October 05, 2009, 05:54:08 AM »
I wake up naturally, sometime around 5 or 6.  When the time changes, I will be getting up closer to 5am everyday.  I can't help it, it's just when I get up....especially in the winter.  Very annoying to me, but I can usually get a lot done.  :)

Other than my last cycle being wonky (think it had to do with the zero carb experiment, since I was cycle was a week longer than usual), things have been great for me.  I've never had really painful periods (i get cramps, but they are tolerable), but I got terrible, TERRIBLE PMS.  It's definitely improved with paleo.  I still get a bit irritable, but I recognize what's causing it and can try to focus inward.  I try to see it as just part of being female, and that my hormones are working the way they should.  Eating lots and lots of fat helps too.  I feel much more balanced.

It may be worth a try going off the birth control as an experiment.  If things get bad, you can always start taking it again.

Chicken broth always helps me.

Honey is paleo, but also really high in fructose.  Use it sparingly.  :)

Well, I gave it up after 52 hours.  Day 2 was hard.  I got fuzzy, really sucked as a teacher, and snapped at my poor little boy.  I also had some spotting, which worried me since I was on day 16.  So I had some blueberries.  I'm going to try to stay on the lower end of the carbs still though...maybe 50. Thanks for the inspiration!

Okay, so I had a weird thing happen.  I woke up in the middle of the night to pee (normal for me), and ended up having watery diarrhea.  I was afraid it would happen again, so I stayed up a couple of hours.  I finally got back to sleep.  This morning I had a near normal bm...a little skinny (sorry for the TMI, but I'm looking for some help here).  So, did I overdo the protein? Fat?  Should I look at this as temporary and keep going?  I want to give it a good shot, but that midnight trip to the bathroom kind of bothered me.

I am hungry and clear headed this am, as usual....but a little afraid to eat.
