I started running in 2006 and I stayed consistently between 174lbs - 182lbs. I started taking Paleo/Primal/Caveman WOE more seriously after I saw my "before" picture at Father's Day last year. I run mostly 5Ks and races up to 5 miles/10Ks, but when I trained for a marathon running 40+ miles a week in 2009, I consistently gained fat around my waist eating the Govt. Food Pyramid/Food Plate.

Now, I just run 2-3 times a week and my 5Ks are between 21min - 23 min. I ran yesterday's 5K at 22:06. I started getting back into biking. I might to a sprint triathlon in September.

2004 I was about 225 lbs. I used to brew my own beer and a lot of it. I still have a empty fridge out in the garage that holds five 5 gallon soda kegs with five spouts in the door. I also make wine and that's what I use it for now. I gained a lot of weight by drinking beer and eating bar type food.

2004 through 2008 - I lost 45-50lbs by doing the Men's Health Abs diet off and on. I could never see my abs by following that diet.

2009 - I ate a diet similar to whfoods.org (whole grains, whole foods, whole foods market, kashi frozen dinners) and I came across Paleo Diet for Athletes, but it sat on the shelf for about a year. I still couldn't get rid of the spare tire.

2010 - I wanted to make the change so I read Paleo diet for Athletes and Paleo Diet. I also started listening to Robb Wolf's podcast. Between getting my in-laws moved into their new house between March - May, I started taking Paleo more seriously in June of last year.

Yes, I drank a lot of sports drinks like Endurox, protein shakes and smoothies, etc. I gave those up when I heard Robb Wolf say to eat your foods whole rather than blend them because it causes an insulin spike. I ate a lot of pasta, rice, bread, beer, late night meals with beer, etc. I don't drink beer much anymore. I take Robb Wolf's recommendation and drink Tequila. I usually mix it with LemonLime seltzer. I will occasionally have sangria or red wine.
