how fast have you all lost weight

just by eating paleo...his book says diet alone is just as effective as diet&exercise, although exercise is important for health.

i can't see why i wouldn't lose weight, i've cut out ALL processed food, grains, and dairy, and replaced it all with fruits&vegs, how could that not be better? i haven't been cutting calories but obviously eating carrots instead of potato chips like i normally would is a positive change

i mean it's only been like 4 days for me, i was sort of pissed i weigh the same but then i was like...wait. its only been 4 days. duhh

i'm getting really tempted to eat ice cream and pancakes but i want to get thin!! and healthy!! i'm scared i can't stick to this because i was sitting in a frozen yogurt place today...and i almost went in :( it looked so damn good and i've been eating fruit salad but that doesnt stop my craving for ice cream/frozen yogurt/cookies!!! i want fat and sugar at the same time to stop the craving...

I suggest that you start posting a food journal, and make it clear that losing weight is your primary goal.  It would also help to provide your sex, current weight, and what you think your ideal weight would be.

The fastest weight loss happens with very low carb, high fat paleo.  Most people who adopt that lose 10 pounds or more in the first couple of weeks, then a few pounds a month thereafter.  That's not necessarily the version of paleo that everyone goes with long term, though.

First two weeks is often quite hard with regards to cravings, willpower will get you through.

But yeah, if you start a detailed food journal, everyone can and will help.

Diet alone is effective for weight loss. Weight loss generally means fat maintenance/muscle loss. Not a healthy trade off unless your goal is "skinnyfat".
Fat loss should be the desired goal. Lifting heavy weight with compound movements will cue the body to spare muscle and consequently use fat for energy in the light of a caloric deficit.

i've lost about 10-12 pounds since starting paleo in september - down from about 125.  The first 5 came off in about 2 weeks - but at least 3 of that is water weight.

It depends where you are to begin with of course

Who is this his you are referring to?  A dozen paleo books have been written since the 1960s

Paleo is not a race to see how fast you can lose weight. It is a healthy life style.  Just cutting calories doesn't work.  How much fruit salad are you eating?  A lot of fruit is going to load you with a lot of fruit sugars, which are glucose and fructose.  Although fruit has vitamins, minerals and some fiber, an over load of fruit is not necessarily healthy if it spikes your insulin. High insulin will keep you from burning fat. You should try to keep net carbs below 100 grams a day, preferably below 72 grams a day. You can't do that eating fruit salad.

4 days.  Sheesh.

In 2003 when I cut out all wheat from my diet and reduced rice and replaced it with veggies I was happy and made sure I only lost 2 pounds per month.  I didn't do work outs.  I don't like gym stuff.  I want real activity that has a point like flying a kite or running with my children.

I was 50 pounds overweight.  When you are obese, walking around is exercise enough.  You will want physical activity later on when you have lost enough weight and gained enough nutrition for excess energy.

Why go slow with weight loss? I wanted my weight loss to be permanent.  I wanted my new diet to be a new habit.

Healthy people have healthy HABITS.

Healthy people's thinking and desires have CHANGED.

For example:

You are attracted to: "ice cream/frozen yogurt/cookies"

My children open up a christmas gift of chocolates and cookies and say: "Oh crap! Junk food!"

If you were paleo thinking, your mouth would be watering at a butcher shop with glistening yummy meats.

For example the picture below... for me as a raw paleo dieter, this sets off my tummy gurgling and my mouth salivating.  The meat is gorgeous.

Paleo is not known for instant results. If you can hang in there you will start to see positive results in the first few weeks. It took me eight months to lose about 20 pounds.

LOL I know the feeling! I have to watch that myself but trust me if you hang in there you will see real results. In September of last year I weighted 195 and today I am down to 153. That is 42 pounds in 5 months.

Hi, I lost 4.5lbs in 6 days. I need to loose another 33.5 lbs. I have cut out Grains, potato, pastsa rice etc the only thing im eating is veg,fruit  meat and eggs and feeling great.

Depending on your mass, you shouldn't be losing more than 2-3 lbs per week of fat.  Water weight will melt off because you are switching to a low sodium diet, and you should be drinking a lot of water on a paleo diet anyway

If I am eating below maintenance I lose about 1-1.5 lbs per week.  I started Paleo at 158 lbs and I got down to 153 lbs by the end of the 2nd week.  Depending on exercise and your diet, your body will adjust its composition of muscle/fat until you reach a new level of equilibrium.  Then you can decide if you like it or need to lose more

Try not to weigh yourself more than once a week, or you'll just get discouraged!

My first week I lost five pounds, but that was mostly water weight.  After that it was one or two pounds a week.  Since February 1 when I started paleo, I've lost seventeen pounds total.  (I actually gained a couple of pounds back one week when I got slack and pigged out on ice cream and junk food.  Amazing how fast it came back--but I lost it again the next week.)

I worked diligently, for two years before going PALEO to lose weight -> and I did...   BUT I was constantly hungry and according to my wife and seven kids frequently "irritable." PRE-PALEO  I lost about 20 pounds in two years - through excessive excercise and dietary restrictions.
       My FIRST MONTH after going PALEO, I lost 19 pounds --> without feeling hungry and with less time at the YMCA.  I also lost most of my arthritis/bursitis AND gained increased endurance for ALL physical activities (Yes, that one too - ask my wife of 38 years!)  My statement to all of you is, "Paleo works for me!"  JMull
