Going paleo was one of the best things I ever did.  I really wish I would have known about all this before I got sick and gained weight, I could have avoided both!  Pretty sure I didn’t gain any weight when I started eating paleo.  I lost like crazy though…the almost 50 pounds I had gained while sick.  Not sure I’ve ever heard anyone say they gained weight/fat when starting before they lost.  Nothing like that comes to mind anyway.

On a sunny day if I stick my tongue out just right I might make it to almost 5‘.  I weigh 100 - 103 and I’ll be 51 years old early next month.  I don’t have any heavy pictures of myself on my computer cuz that was a long time ago.  This is one of my most recent pic’s though.  Other than my hair is kind’a sun bleached and my skin is tan right now, I look the same.  These were taken in March so a couple months ago.  So far so good, not many wrinkles, very few gray hairs, weight is good, no muscle wasting…yay paleo! :)

My photos are in the link Warren Dew posted...

I started Paleo at about 143.3lbs (that was after losing about a total of 4.5lbs in the 5 prior years doing other diets such as vegan/soup diet/weight watchers/low fat-high exercise etc etc and doing the yoyo up and down between them all.
I got down to 121.3lbs (that's a loss of 22lb for those who cbf'd doing the math from the start of paleo) in the first 7 months.  I was no where near as hardcore as now, doing about 80-90% of the strictness I currently do.
I then found out I was pregnant and stuck to a mostly paleo diet (about 85-90% of current strictness) and put on about 22.0b during my pregnancy.  I lost most of that on the birth of my son.  I reached my pre-pregnancy weight (121.3lb) within a couple of weeks.
I got down to about 116.8lb by the time I fell pregnant with my daughter.  I put on 17.6lb with her pregnancy and lost 13.2lb immediately and the rest in a week or two (after a c-section, which is supposed to be harder to lose weight from).
I am currently swaying between 110 and 117lb depending on when I weigh myself and what I'm wearing (I don't normally weigh myself unless someone asks so I usually have clothes on).

What she is afraid of is that as her body is used to no fat etc, when the fat intake increases her body will also increase until it gets used to the level. Simply put, she is afraid of some kind of fat rebound before the paleo skinny kicks in.

My body was very used to no fat.  I had as close to 0% fat as I possibly could (my last diet before paleo was the low fat-high exercise one, and I was on it for about a year).  I did not put on any fat AT ALL while doing paleo.  The more fat I eat (and the less carbs I eat) the more I lose.  This is with 0 exercise (except incidental).  I've been doing Paleo for just over 3 years now and feel great for it.  I am still on it, not because I think I need to lose weight, but because of the health benefits I gained while doing it.

If your g/f wants a girl to talk to about it.. tell her to msg me.

And TWC760, what's with that before photo?????

I just realised you said you're 51 Posy...  You look freakin' awesome!!!!!  my parents are 49 + 51 this year and you look closer to my age than you do theirs.

Thanks for the kind words paleomum :) …I look more “bulky” in that shot than a full body would be, but no make up on so a truer likeness in that respect.  If I ever get some decent uninterrupted time I’ll update my journal and maybe post a full body with better over all perspective.  That along with some taken of what I‘ve been up to lately...eek the summer is flying by so fast and I‘m way behind in writing there!

As far as age and eating paleo, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.  It’s kind of odd to “feel” younger than family and friends around the same age seem to.  All have aches and pains and take meds for this that or the other…just things like that where conversations lead and I can’t relate…so socially it’s odd (not that I want to relate to that stuff ever at all!!!) In the past though, I only noticed the food differences that could be socially awkward at times.  I think there are a lot more benefits for couples eating paleo together than I’ve ever realized before until recently.  It's never bothered me in the past that my husband doesn't eat the way I do, but now a days I sure wish he would.

Posy, that's very cool that you are actually feeling younger than your friends and family around the same age! How long have you been Paleo?

I'm surprised your DH hasn't joined you, seeing your wonderful benefits! My DH almost immediately jumped on board, really surprising me since he's a good Polish boy that LOVES his potatoes and noodles. But he saw my meals, and they looked so good, plus he said he wanted to tone up some, he joined after just about a month!

Approximately 12 years…with a few short lived disastrous gluten free, non paleo food item experiments on myself in there though.
Awesome that your husband eats paleo with you :)

Wow, Posy, 12 years!! Congratulations!! That's really awesome. I tried gluten free for a long time too. Then I tried vegan (for 7 years). I was even gluten-free vegan, for a time there. Talk about exclusionary!! Bleah, lots of beans and quinoa....I prefer Paleo definitely!  :D

OK, I decided to have some courage and post a pic...I've been strict Paleo for four months now and just added in 100% grassfed raw dairy in the last few weeks. FYI, I'm 37 years old. I'm eating only 100% local grassfed meats and pastured pork and eggs, and pretty much 95% organic veggies, local as much as possible, everything cooked in pastured pork lard.

I was pretty slim before Paleo, but now I have even less body fat and I feel my muscles more now. My skin is smoother now too, (even more so since adding in the grassfed dairy, sorry I know how you all feel about the dairy, but it's working for me!). I feel very strong and healthy and great!  ;D

Here's what I looked like 6 years ago, when I was vegan:

Here's today:

So, it's not a lot different, BUT, I feel stronger, when I put my hand on my hip especially I notice there is more muscle there than there used to be. I used to be just skin and bones and a little tiny layer of fat in between.  :D   Now I feel like that little layer of fat is gone, and there is more muscle now.

Thanks, grubinski!

It's hard to see in the photo, but you can tell in person more. Before I was thin and soft, now I am slim and strong. Like a real cavewoman!! :D

I've noticed that my belly is flatter since I've started meat-only, so I wanted to share a pic. I don't know how well you can see it. The first pic is four months into Paleo. The second pic is after three days of meat-only (with fish and eggs). If you can see it, in the second pic you can see my hip-bone which you can't see in the first pic. Now there's less distension and bloating. Also my shorts are riding lower now, too, and my arms a little slimmer.

Paleo vs. Meat-only

I can see the difference for sure Marika, glad you’re feeling so much better too!  I know you didn’t have pounds to lose and had lost inches before... have you lost any pounds with the meat only?
