Progress report
« on: July 20, 2010, 07:25:40 PM »
April 20 - 190
May 20 - 182
June 20 - 172
July 20 - 164 (Probably 163.5 but I'll round up to be on the safe side.)

To put it in context, I'm five-foot-ten and weighed 135 in college. I wonder what the next few months hold for me. This trend will start to bottom out eventually. I've had to buy new trousers. Even after cutting two inches off my belt, my trousers didn't fit correctly -- they looked like clown clothes. Moreover, my shirts were so loose they looked like some sort of blouse, fortunately, it was Father's Day recently and there were lots of shirts on sale.

Congratulations.  Note that you can have the waist taken in on pants, though that only covers adjustments of 10-20 pounds or so.

If my personal experience and what I've read from a few others is generalizable, you will bottom out at :

a) if you follow 80/20 with little exercise: your ideal body fat +~5-10%
b) 80/20 with some exercise or a little stricter with less exercise: your ideal body fat + ~ 2-5%.
c) Strict paleo with lots of training: your ideal body fat% +~0-2%.
Any idiot can get on a treadmill and watch TV and then take great pride in the fact they've exercised.

I'm finding it easier to follow the 99-01 rule rather than 80-20 rule, thank goodness!  In fact, I promised myself two open meals per week when I just started but I stopped that after the first month!

As for exercise, I live right next to a mountain so I do a lot of hill walking. I'm finding it difficult to visualize this as a percentage of body fat but I guess, if I stick at it, I'll find out in several months .

Yeah, a shame since I had some nice suits that I had to give away. I went to a place to have them altered and the answer came back that it was too drastic an alteration. They'd have to take out so much that the two back pockets would have to be combined!

Do some hill sprints, with rests in between. Will burn a hell of a lot more fat than walking.

The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Unfortunately, my running days are probably behind me. I used to enjoy running but my left foot doesn't. Damned irritating, but there it is.

I remember the movie they made about you: My Left Foot.     ;)

It's a shame, really. As I did enjoy running's simplicity.

Well, my goal weight is 140, down from 190 in April. I'd anticipate that I'm going to have to do something about the skin that's increasingly loose. It'll probably take some time to tighten. Perhaps when my weight is down there, I'll be able to do short runs, say of five miles. I wonder if that'll help with the deflated spare tire? I guess it's a good problem to have and I'll worry about it when I get there.

One hundred and forty, for my height, would be a BMI of over 19, so theoretically, I could go to below 135 and still be above 18.5, but with a bit of flabby skin, that's certainly not going to happen quickly. Anyway, one thing at a time.
