Brownies
« on: December 16, 2011, 09:58:08 PM »
You guys have probably seen this, but thought i'd share as I loved them

http://www.paleobrownies.com/#comment-46

I also added in 15gr chopped walnuts and 40gr 85% cocoa chocolate.  Certainly not something to have all the time, but nice for a sweet treat while still fairly paleo...hey, at least it is gluten and grain free and mostly sugar free except for the small amount in the 85% choc.

I was worried I would want to eat the whole batch (as I could have easily done in the past with normal brownies), but true to paleo foods, 1 was enough and I felt completely satisfied, had a choc fix and very filling, due to all the fat!  My non paleo husband thought they were disgusting, maybe because the cocoa and choc are so bitter, but not complaints from me :)  I would love to make a dessert like this every few weeks so that i'm still enjoying those sweet treats I love, but without it being a big hunk of wheat and sugar filled choc cake or ice-cream or a mars bar or something.

Thanks!  If you are searching for other "sweet tooth" satisfying alternatives, you might check out the website chocolatecoveredkatie.com.  My favorite are the Hot Fudge Brownie Larabars.  Very easy to make, and no baking needed:

1 1/3 cups dates
1 cup almonds
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
3-4 tbsp baking cocoa (I use the extra dark stuff)

Then you put it all in the food processor and let it go.  I use the dried dates, so I usually add a few tables spoons of water at the end to make the mixture more doughy.
We've also made the one of the ice milks for my kids with almond milk.  My youngest liked it, but the oldest wasn't buying it.  I think her audience is more vegan/vegetarian, but there are lots of recipes that can easily be adapted to paleo :)

I like making a no-bake dessert of shredded coconut, semi-sweet chocolate nibs, dried berries (currants, raisins, cranberries etc) and walnuts, mixed in with melted butter and coconut oil.

You could replace the 85% chocolate with 100% baker's chocolate and a little honey to make it a bit more paleo.

Are these quite dense? I actually like dense, hearty brownies, and even desserts. They make me satisfied with very little.

I often use coconut flour for my brownies, sometimes adding pureed dates for a tiny amount of sweetness (but not too much). Like to added chopped baking chocolate (unsweetened), as well. Thanks for sharing! :)

The recipe that I posted is very dense and reminds me a lot of a fudge brownie.  It's perfect for me and helps me feel more satisfied with my diet choice :)

Should not be eaten regularly though. A treat here and there.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.
