Gyro Burgers with Tzatziki Sauce
« on: February 24, 2012, 08:11:11 PM »
I enjoy gyros (the Greek lamb and beef sandwiches), but pita bread and yogurt (in the tzatziki sauce) aren't Paleo. I decided to make gyro burgers, and I found a Paleo recipe for tzatziki sauce that replaces the yogurt with mayonnaise. The burgers turned out great!

Gyro Burgers:

1/2 pound ground lamb
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 yellow onion, diced
2 cloves of garlic, diced
1 teaspoon of marjoram
1 teaspoon of thyme
1 teaspoon of rosemary
1 teaspoon of oregano
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon of black pepper

Tzatziki Sauce:

1/2 cup + 1 teaspoon of your favorite Paleo mayonnaise recipe
1/2 cucumber, shredded
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 1/2 tablespoons of dill

1. Put the diced onion in a blender until it's finely diced.
2. Put the lamb and beef in a large bowl. Add the diced onion, garlic, and other seasonings, and mix well.
3. Form the meat mixture into 4 patties, and put them on the grill.
4. Put the mayonnaise in a bowl, and add the cucumber, lemon juice, and seasonings. Mix well, and refrigerate until ready to serve.
5. When the burgers are done, put a couple spoonfuls of tzatziki sauce on top. Enjoy!
