Recipes on line
« on: August 19, 2006, 04:23:26 PM »
Hey, how ya goin'? :)

I stumble across this forum and the idea of a hunter-gatherer diet by accident, while researching early hominids.
Many of the sites I looked at alluded to the benefits of this type of diet as opposed to our current dietary intake, particularly in regard to autoimmune disorders.
So here I am. In the hopes of alleviating the symptoms of Crohn's Disease, I shall become a Hunter-Gatherer, at least in my eating habits, will have to adopt a suitable exercise routine as well.
Here is a link to what looks like a decent list of recipes.

http://www.paleofood.com/

Hope it is useful, will add any new ones I can come up with while Hunting and Gathering. :)

Well then you lucked out just like me when I stumbled across a link to info about a Paleo diet.  You will never be the same again  ;)

I can't believe you mentioned Crohn's Disease because that one has been singled out all over the place as an easy problem to fix with a caveman diet and exercise

The Paleo food site is good.  I got a little bored lately with meat on top of a a nice salad so time to try some new recipes.

I think I'm one of those who is easily sidetracked, :) I was doing the research for an RPG (Role Playing Game), I was playing around with, and somehow ended up here. :)

I've had Crohn's Disease for about 13 years. When I was diagnosed, they thought it was odd because I was in my late 20's at the time, and most people develop it much earlier. So I always thought it was brought on by a combination of my immune system (I very rarely got ill, before diagnosis) and environment. One of the sites, http://www.earth360.com/diet_paleodiet_balzer.html, had an article about Lectins in most grain and vegetable crops and detailed how these could cause cells in the bowel wall to falsely identify themselves as a harmful invader, triggering an autoimmune response. Which fits with my understanding of how Crohn's Disease actually occurs.

My wife and daughter are both a little hesitant at the moment as I am now taking over in the kitchen, :) and will be preparing most of our meals. Should be interesting as I don't often cook. :)

This site http://www.cherikoff.net/cherikoff/index.php?s=recipe_list has a host of recipes, predominately based on Australian bush tucker, they look to be compatible in most cases with a Paleo diet. Not much good to non-aussies, but a bit of experimentation should come up with a few alternative ingredients.      :)
I'd read up on some of the native plants though, a few of them require some preparation before they are edible.
