England's obese to reach 13m

More than 12 million adults and one million children will be obese by 2010, the Government has predicted.

As a result thousands more people will suffer related diseases like cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes, swelling the cost of obesity to the NHS above its current 1 billion.

Patricia Hewitt, the Health Secretary, insisted the Government was doing what it could and urged people to take responsibility for their own health.

"In the old days, the big health challenges were infectious diseases like typhoid and TB, but these days our health depends much more on what we do for ourselves than on what the NHS does for us," she said

Most western countries are starting to notice this at the moment, aren't they?
I started to realise it a few years back, when my usual voyeuristic tendencies revealed that a large percentage of women were overweight, wait...wait....wait..... I also noticed it in men and children when I became aware of it. And of course when I looked in the mirror. :)
To me it seems like every 2nd person I meet is grossly overweight, perhaps it's the areas I live in. It does seem to affect lower income areas more than the higher income areas.
Aha..... it's a plot.... to kill off the poor with obesity. :)
Sorry.... I never take anything seriously. :)
