Has anyone read any reports on the environmental impact of grass-fed beef that are really unbiased? I've been googling and it seems like everything I read attempts to make the issue a wash and ends with a statement like "the only way to save the environment is to go vegan!" So, I don't really trust the information I'm reading.

I don't worry about crap like that. If it was a government funded study it would probably be biased by whoever was in charge. We got the lipid theory into government policy because an assistant to Senator George McGovern on a nutrition committee was a vegan.  The original purpose of the committee was to study nutrition among to poor to see if they were getting adequate nutritious food.  They committee morphed into the anti-fat campaign.

Didn't somebody recently post about a USDA study that showed grass-feeding is more sustainable?

I think most of what I was reading was just content farm crap. One was an interview with some guy from the Sierra club and halfway through he said he was vegan so I stopped reading. I've read somewhere that a well maintained pasture removes carbon from the air. While I'd like to believe that and never worry again, I don't know if that is accurate either. I'm really getting sick of all the pro-vegan mis-information out there. EWG.org just released a meat report that was incredibly short sighted. They barely mentioned grass-fed meat and basically just demonized all beef and lamb and said that shifting to a more plant based diet is the best thing for the environment. This is just such dangerous information to be telling people and its just going to lead to further health problems and depression.

I used to be a member of the Sierra Club for the outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking and camping. But I got tired of them calling me on the phone to get involved in their political agenda.

Let me make two points here:  True, grass (and all plants and trees) 'breathes' carbon dioxide and 'exhales' oxygen. Back when I was in school we learned that in 4th grade (1960 for me).  In fact the world's grasses provide more oxygen than the trees.

Second point: I've got enough to worry about for my own personal life than to worry about what a bunch of vegans say about the sustainability of grass fed beef. By the way when I was in the Sierra Club none of the people I knew were vegans.
I'm really getting sick of all the pro-vegan mis-information out there.
It doesn't bother me because I don't read it. I come here and also one other paleo forum and a low carb forum.  I stopped listening, reading and worrying about what vegans say. Being vegan has diminished their brain functioning anyway.

I don't worry for my own sake, because I know what proper nutrition is. I just worry for others and I worry that our collective environmental concerns and concerns over how our food is made will push people towards vegetarianism and veganism. When I hear false and biased information it just bothers me. I can't control it.

Management-intensive rotational grazing is environmentally friendly.  Try googling that instead of "grass-fed".

By the way. When I said we learned that in 4th grade it wasn't a criticizing you. I was criticizing  the school system these days when most kids don't know when Lincoln, FDR or JFK lived or how to read or write.  Most kids in the U.K. don't know anything about William Wilberforce.
