essay time (request)
« on: April 11, 2011, 08:45:49 AM »
Hi all,

I'm currently writing an essay regarding veganism and how terrible it is. I seem to have misplaced all the caveman/paleo blog links I wrote down and all the info in google I'm pulling up isn't exactly helpful. Does anyone have any links to studies or blog entries about the following?:

- how veganism is a deficient/unhealthy diet
- veganism is harmful to the environment
- veganism is an unsustainable diet

feel free to show me whatever else you might have. I'm running on about 2 seconds of sleep so maybe that's why I didn't notice anything while searching this forum for relevant articles. I do apologize in advance for failing to be thorough with my searches :(

The best resource by far is 'The Vegetarian Myth' by Lierre Keith -
http://www.lierrekeith.com/vegmyth.htm

large chunks of the text are available on google books but I would consider buying the full book - it's extremely well written

Eatwild.com has a resources page with studies on sustainability of grass fed animals.  Several of the studies come from the USDA:

These guys might also have some good links on humane methods of raising animals:

I got SO irritated with Stone Brewery, when we went for a tour on what happened to be "Meatless Monday," and saw that they had no meat on the menu one day a week in order to support sustainable agriculture.  We left without eating since every single thing had soy, wheat, or corn in it...I'm considering sending them a copy of Keith's book.
