Oddly enough despite being in last place, Paleo got the most yes votes for "Did this diet work for you?"

Then the rebuttal

The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Let's not beat around the bush, lazy journalism kills people. Is killing people right now.

this makes me sad.  I wonder how long it's going to take for the general opinion of fat = bad is going to change?

Hopefully not forever.  I think most people realise that low carb (or at least low sugar) diets are effective for weight loss

I wish someone could do a study on primal and paleo folks and see how healthy they all are...
Sugar addiction kills more people than all other kinds of drugs combined

If your food needs a prefix, it's not paleo!

Everything in the US news diet review is TRASH.

Great observation that PALEO DIET has the most number of VOTES that it worked for them.
I'm on Raw Paleo diet but I have kids to feed on cooked paleo diet.

Why anyone would take to heart anything from U.S. News bewilders me but P.T. Barnum had it right. This is one of the most unreliable and sloppy news sources on the planet. This article is nothing more than a puff-piece for the USDA and/or "Big AG" (one and the same). There isn't even a named author. Someone there probably regurgitated a press release sent out by the USDA, or ADM, or Monsanto, or General Mills, or one of the other giant poison manufacturers. Obama's fingerprints are probably all over this, likely to shore up his stupid wife's MyPlate nonsense. What a crock of shit.

Interesting that how well they work is almost the reverse ordering of the experts.  Weight Watchers, which at this point is low carb, has managed to hide that from the "experts", though.

That article was so poorly written.  Nice response from Cordain, including his address of the "all that fat" scare tactic used by the U.S. News author:

Quote
“Also, if you’re not careful about making lean meat choices, you’ll quickly ratchet up your risk for heart problems” .

Actually, the most recent comprehensive meta analyses do not show fresh meat consumption whether fat or lean to be a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease (20-25), only processed meats such as salami, bologna, bacon and sausages (20).

Got to take it as a positive I think. Paleo got the most working votes, and if we share out cordain's rebuttal maybe even more peoples lives will be saved by making the (scientifically supported) switch.

I think the problem is that if we succeed there won't be enough good food to go around. We'll need to get rid of quite a few of us to be sustainably paleo.

Billy Connolly did an extemely un-PC and hilarious piece about solving world hunger through cannibalism. "There are too many people, and there are people who are hungry. Just think about it ... We could start with the unemployed!"    :P

Your not thinking about the advances in technology. Take Catoms for example, which are programmable atoms.....they could quite seriously, if the capitalist overlords ever permit us to do it, make world hunger a thing of the past. It would also get rid of MANY menial jobs, taking away the "need" for a capitalist society.

How? What would you replace this society with? How would removing menial jobs help? How does this help feed people?

First of all Catoms - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claytronics#Current_catoms - will be able to mass replicate food ala Star Trek replicators....also be able to build building and clean toilets instead of having labourers and janitors for example.

As for replacing society i often have a vision and think about often a utopian society, however in the intermediate stages a sort of socialised capitalism would have to occur until the total elimination of menial jobs, with all wages being equal and no "employer" just "employees"

Take for instance, even if we didn't have Replicators for food, that there are 100 hours worked in total by all employees of Big Burger in a week, and a profit of a $10000 dollars. Rather than the employees getting minimum wage and the boss getting the profits, the end dividend would be divided up by the employees. Say Kristie worked 23 hours of the 100, Ross 27 and Julie 50, Kristie would get $2300, Ross $2700 and Julie $5000, instead of the profit going directly to one person. This would be replicated across all sectors of the economy, allowing personal economic growth (ala lots of nice things to buy that you can afford) and happiness, while directly stimulating the economy and rising to ever greater efficiency while negating the risk of a recession and great depression.

I think you'd like the documentary "Money as Debt" which, was, available on google video and can be found around the video tubes somewhere.
