Chokeartist's training log

My workouts have been too random lately, so I'm gonna be keeping track of my workouts and progress here.
I'm pretty old school when it comes to strength training, and use mostly bodyweight & sandbag exercises. I Also train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu 2 - 3 times per week (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday).
Tonight I've been throwing my sandbag around a little, basicly I snatch the sandbag, squat down, jump up and throw the bag as far as I can. I did this for 8 reps x 4 sets, with about 60 seconds rest between sets. My sandbag is light (25 kg) but hard to handle because of the shifting weight, so my hands really got a workout tonight.

I am very impressed that you think 25kg is light!

Had a 1 hour BJJ session yesterday (tuesday), just a couple of guys getting together for some drills and rolling. Still worked up quite a sweat though.

Had another hour of BJJ today, and managed to injure my elbow.
This really sucks since I'm going to a BJJ seminar on saturday, and now I won't be able to roll at high intensity.

Had a BJJ seminar this satuday, which ended up lasting for 4 hours. I had iced my elbow immediately prior to the seminar, and didn't feel too much pain during the thing.
I have a couple of exams this week, but I should be able to squeeze in some training sessions, and as soon as my elbow gets better I can start lifting again

Had a great day today, got an A on my social studies exam, and then went straight to the academy for a 2 hour no-gi BJJ session. I can really feel myself improving with all the extra training I've been doing lately.

Thanks Suze. It is really incredible how different I feel when I'm eating paleo, I wish I'd discovered this WOE much sooner.

Today I did a BJJ intro-class for a couple of schoolmates. It has been a long time since I've rolled with complete beginners and we all had a really great time.

I decided to test whether my elbow had recovered completely and ended up doing a small workout with my sandbag:
Bent over-rows: 3x10
Push press: 3x10
Bearhug squat: 3x10
Elbow is holding up great, now if I can only learn to tap in time so it doesn't happen again...

Just finished a small workout:
Sandbag shouldering squat: 3x10 (5 for each side per set)
Sandbag Bent over-rows: 3x10
Weighted pushup (30 lbs backpack): 3x10
I'm going to BJJ tomorrow for the first time in a while... can't wait.

I know from experience that throwing around sandbags is a good workout- I took a fitness trainer course (MFT program) in the early '90s while in the Army, and one of the trial exercises they were considering for the yearly-required APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test), because it was similar to 'real-world' tasks that a soldier might be required to do in the field, was to repeatedly load and unload a sandbag onto the back of a truck- from the ground to the truck bed was about 5 feet. Man, I had DOMS for days after that! And it works just about your entire body.
