“Your core is still getting a good workout”
Speaking of core…that’s what I’m going to post next. I finally found it, I knew it was still floating around out there in space.
“It's just most directly affecting your erector spinae and quadratus lumborum.”
I’ll take your word on that!
“It's interesting how it somewhat isolates those muscles in an a variation of an exercise that also activates hamstrings, glutes and a limited amount of calves.”
I guess. My hamstrings aren’t usually tight so it takes quite a bit to get a scream out them. A plain ol dead lift is still probably my best bet rather than combining it with anything else I think. I need to get low.

I saw a guy do this on youtube recommended by his doctor I believe. In his video of it, he says to try it after finishing a certain weighted workout program. Me being the dork I am, decided to try it before hand. Afterward I could see how having some strength work experience would be Very helpful…it wasn’t as easy as it looked! I couldn’t make it past the first 30 seconds my first two tries, this is my third. My form is not the best (I twist too much) but I made it by the skin of my teeth. I’m an easy going person but also stubborn as hell…where there‘s a will, there‘s a way! Now if I do it, I don’t time it and I certainly don’t film it but hopefully I‘m a bit better at it.
And now, purely for entertainment purposes if your having a boring Saturday…my 3 minute core test (and one and only youtube video) from 3 years ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG56w6vpgsE
3 minute core test:
•Position the watch on the ground where you can easily see it
•Assume the basic plank (on toes and elbows)
•Hold this position for 60 seconds
•Lift your right arm off the ground
•Hold this position for 15 seconds
•Return your right arm to the ground and lift the left arm off the ground
•Hold this position for 15 seconds
•Return your left arm to the ground and lift the right leg off the ground
•Hold this position for 15 seconds
•Return your right leg to the ground and lift the left leg off the ground
•Hold this position for 15 seconds
•Lift your left leg and right arm off the ground
•Hold this position for 15 seconds
•Return you left leg and right arm to the ground
•Lift your right leg and left arm off the ground
•Hold this position for 15 seconds
•Return to the basic plank (on toes and elbows)
•Hold this position for 30 seconds
For a better (and more serious) example of how it’s done, try a search on youtube for core test, or 3 minute core test. Several people have posted them.

Todays workout-action hero babe (the name just cracks me right up!
) phase 1, build. (all reps are predetermined in this one)
Circuit 1 (x3)
Sumo squat-r12-w55 with bar
1 arm row-r12-17.5
Slide reverse lunge-r10-w17.5
Dumbbell chest press-r12-w15
Circuit 2 (x3)
Dead lift-r12-w50 with bar
Shoulder press-r10-w12.5
Bicep curls-r12-w12.5
Tricep extension-r15-w12.5
Circuit 3 (x3)
Glute bridge on ball-r15
Crunches on ball-r15
Ball rollaway-r15
Slide pike-r15
I need more weight on my squat bar before I do this one again next week, I‘m going to check walmarts price for plates cuz I don’t like having to switch weight from one bar to the next during programs. The weight on my dead lift bar is fine.
This gal used a kettle ball for a couple things…I don’t have any of those. Probably never will. They look like they pull on ur neck the way she was holding it for her squats. Plus I wouldn’t throw those things around like I’ve seen either
I’d probably pop out a shoulder with my luck!
Todays workout was fine but looking ahead, the next two main workouts for the week look more like todays circuit 3. Hardly anything uses any weight
I’m suppose to do yoga tomorrow and another day too this week. It‘s only 15 minutes but still, *cringe* not a yoga person. Also pick some kind of cardio to do, it‘s not provided. No idea what to do for that yet. I change my mind about liking this program or not about every 5 minutes.
She does this workout in what looks like her home gym by herself except for the camera man…no fancy studio, no fancy clothes, no music, all fine by me. She huff’s and puff’s a lot and then says “oo” in a little tiny voice. She lifts fairly fast, faster than I do so I have to mess with the remote a lot if I want to stay in the same place as her. Seemed like she clanks her weights more often than not, that‘s kind‘a buggy
Food:
Bacon (less than a pound today
Baby carrots
An apple
Messy 3 egg omelet with onions
last of my roast
I might have some walnuts and raisins or some blueberries with a couple tablespoons of coconut milk on them tonight.

Worked out in the yard today, plus finally moved all those cement wall blocks for the last time hopefully. Nice warm day.
Rethinking my workout program to use two workouts from this program mixed with a program I’ve been saving…I think. The day I’d rather move cement block is the day I know my current plan won’t work.
2 eggs
Half a banana
Carrot
steak
Shake with broc, strawberries, water, walnuts
I think that was it.
I’m thawing out some of my soup/stew for the next couple days. Wish I had some grapes right about now.

Ok yup, plan B. I’m going to start my back up program on Monday so that I get a full week in. Till then I’m dink’n around. Cleaned and rearranged my workout room today. So STS (shock training system) is on for mon, wed and fri. action hero babe on tue and thur because most of AHB are non weighted. Seems I always end up mixing programs which is ok.
I’m suppose to figure out my one arm rep for this program but I’m not going to. I don’t care what it is…I’m such a rebel
MIL had to have a bone density scan. She has osteoporosis. It was pretty much a shock to her after being in the dairy biz her whole life, that all that milk didn‘t help. She was sure she didn’t even need such a test. The news was kind’a hard for her to hear. I felt bad for her.
Ooo my brother in law called and is going hunting. He wanted to know how much fat I wanted if he gets anything. LOL hello…all of it!

Boring day yesterday but I did cook up some fish at long last
I was snoop’n around for salmon and found a bag of cod from Costco so I cooked up six pieces thinking I’d have some for a couple days. Nope, I ate all but one, hubby ate the other. Now I’ve got a couple rib eyes thawing out. One for lunch today and one for tomorrow is the plan. Probably some veggies too, probably broccoli, probably raw…cooked still doesn’t sound very good. Darn it all, I just remembered I still have some stew thawed out. I should have had that for breakfast but I ate eggs. Oh well it will fit in there some where at some point. Was thinking it was Saturday when I got up this morning…trying to hurry this week along I guess.

So I was feeling pretty overwhelmed since last weekend for awhile. My honey has had some health issues that landed him in the hospital a week ago Friday night…he’s doing much better now though thankfully! Wish he’d eat paleo though.
We’re also still waiting to hear if he gets the ax in the latest 400 job cuts. It’s the waiting that’s freaky and getting the reassuring talk (
) that those leaving are woven in the fabric of the company blah blah blah…LOL oh ok, well as long as he’s woven in the fabric for all time, cuz yeah, that was my first worry as 400 people get bent over. *cough*
Now that I’ve had a chance to chill and catch my breath though, I say…go ahead, bring it on, that all ya got?! Ha, I refuse to cry uncle! Besides, we raised 4 GIRLS, this stuff is noth’n compared to that…sucker! No I don’t really want more stress to deal with but hey, if things are going to be nuts, bring it on so we can get it over with and move on already. Woof!
I kept up with workouts till Thursday when I started having thoughts of blowing it off. Thankfully Maria had a post that kicked me in the butt and snapped me out of having those crazy thoughts. Cuz I tell ya what, the last thing I needed to do was lose myself some where in the insanity of what life can some times be, OR miss out on an ounce of energy that I get from workouts, yikes! James Tiberius Kirk needs his pain, I need my workouts, that’s just the way it is. Ok so I have star trek on the brain, I haven’t seen the new one yet but looking forward to it.
Food…I had actually decided to pull a fast earlier in the day Friday so no problem finishing that off since I was at the hospital. Who wants to eat there…eww. I ordered a steak, salad and shrimp from outback and went and picked that up when my fast ended. I remembered to say gluten free but forgot to say, plain with nothing on it. So the steak was heavily seasoned and the shrimp had butter on it. Oh well, not the end of the world.
I was tearing in to my steak when the doc came in again. He said he had a heart attack awhile back but takes enough pills now that he can eat whatever he wants to include steak also. I thought he was going to yell “PSYCH” at any moment, but he didn‘t.
Lets’ see, what else, oh I’ve been in to mushrooms lately. Not a big mushroom fan but actually craving them this week. Cooked some side pork and then cooked the mushrooms in the fat, Mmm so good! Didn’t think to add onion till after, darn, but did throw some chopped broc in the last batch. It was a big greasy grimy gopher gut look’n stuff of yum *slurp*. Made a big bunch of chicken, have had a couple steaks. Veggies have been mostly broccoli, some carrots but I’ve got some brussel sprouts to steam soon too. Sliced apple with cinnamon sprinkled over it and dipped in chilled coconut milk is a fav these days, tasty. Guess that’s the highlights. I’m trying to do more actual meals and less grazing right now.
all’s well that ends well

Sounds like you've had a lot of challenges lately. You've done great to keep up as well as you have. How is your honey?

Hi Maria…yeah life gets rough for everyone now and then…it’s just our turn right now I guess lol
Rather than everything coming to a screeching halt though, I think it’s important to keep as much normalcy as possible. Can’t help any one if I come apart at the seams too, so as you and wlfdg say…suck it up buttercup!
May be awhile before I start posting workouts and what not again but I‘m still at it
Honey is doing much better. I think another week will have him right back on track. He’s hobbling around here with a cane right now due to weakness but we joke about it because it’s a temporary thing…or maybe we’re just deranged that way lol
But yup, he’s on the mend! Thanks for stop’n in…I hope all is going well with you and you’re having a great week!
