Went kayaking for an hour today, and walked on a nature trail. Fun!
Sounds like a perfect day!  :)

I forgot to mention I also threw rocks at a stump for awhile.   ;D

I felt energetic today, so I also did my ttapp Basic Workout Plus, plus some ab and leg exercises.

We moved to Virginia on Friday.  :)  So I've been doing a lot of packing and moving, heavy lifting, and walking a LOT.  The place we live is very pedestrian friendly so we've been trying to walk everywhere instead of taking the car.  The grocery store is 1.5 mi round-trip and I've been walking it every day so far!

The past week has literally included more physical activity than like the past 6 months combined.  I'm such a lazy lump.  :(  Anyway, now that I live in a place where I can WALK places, I think I will be moving my body a lot more!

Ugh, moving is the worst.  :-\ I'm tired just thinking about it. It's really, really rough. Did you move far? Around here it's survival of the fittest (and no road shoulder). Even in a regular car where they should see me, the trucks and SUVs scares me. You have no idea how much I envy just that. I'm expecting more updates in this journal the next few weeks!  ;) The excitement of exploring a new area is like ten cups of coffee and a too expensive personal trainer together. The further away, the better. Watch the back!  :)

According to the gmaps pedometer map, I walked 4.5 miles today.  :)

Hubby joined a floor hockey team that plays games once a week.  I have to drive him to the rec center anyway, so when he had his last game I forked over $6 and used the gym equipment for an hour while he played.  Did 30 min on the treadmill alternating walking and jogging, then did some basic ttapp moves that I have memorized and some light weights.  I'm pooped!  It's the first constructive exercise I've done in awhile.

I'm considering paying the full gym membership as it gains me access to all the rec centers in the county and, as a county resident, I get a substantial discount.  It's still a chunk of change though, and I don't want to sign up for it in a fit of insanity and then lose my steam and never go.

DH had another hockey game tonight, so I used the gym again.  30 min walk/jogging on the treadmill like last week.  It might have been my imagination, but it seemed a little easier this time!  Then I did some weights focusing on my arms/upper body.

Incidentally, I found a sheet of paper today from last May when I had written down my measurements.  I pulled out a measuring tape to compare and I am down a full inch from all of them.  :)  Pretty good for someone who never exercises!  I guess the diet increased my lean body mass or something, because I don't think my weight has really changed since last May.  Woot.

When I'm not posting in here, I'm basically not working out at all.  ;P  It's a sorry state of affairs.

I've been reading about crossfit lately and the style of it is really appealing to me even though I am the biggest wuss imaginable.  I decided to try out some of their exercises that don't use weights, so yesterday I did 5 burpees, 10 pushups, and 5 squats.  I was basically doing it just to see what it was like, so I didn't try very hard.

Today I did 5 burpees, 5 pushups, and 5 squats followed by 3 burpees, 3 pushups, and 3 squats.  I was going to do a round of 1 rep each, but after the 3 rep round I felt really really lightheaded and thought I might pass out so I stopped.  Surprisingly to me, during today's very short workout I realized I was actually pretty sore from yesterday's introductory workout.

I'm going to see if I can con someone into getting me a pull-up bar that fits on the door frame for my birthday (it's about a month and a half away).  There is no way in hiznell that I can do a pull-up right now, but that's the point.  I'll start with jump-ups or with negatives.

I still have my Ttapp DVDs and maybe I can motivate myself to bust those out, too.

Over the weekend I walked a helluva lot.  Went to see the cherry blossoms in DC and we were out walking from 1PM to 5:30PM.  It made my butt sore.   :o

Today I tried out my burpee/pushup/squat thing again and this time I was able to make it through without getting lightheaded.  :)  I did 5,3,2,1.  Then I tried doing a handstand but I couldn't psych myself up for it, so I did a headstand instead.  I remember doing headstands a lot as a kid and thinking it was easy.  Now I have a fear of falling and I also found that it really compressed/hurt my upper back.  Maybe I just need more back strength (HAH! I need more everything strength, more like).  After the headstand, I did 10 bastardized box jumps (I jumped up onto a chair) and I did 3 more pushups.

It's sad how much that wiped me out.

It's not sad! At least you are doing strength training -- most women don't do what you're doing. Crossfit is so great and burpees are ridiculous... but oh so good for you.

Keep up the good work!! :)

Hey thanks!  I definitely need all the encouragement I can get with this exercise stuff, because I have zero motivation on my own.

I asked for that pullup bar for my birthday and I just got it in the mail today courtesy of my mom and little brother.  :)  Nevermind that my bday isn't for a few more weeks.  Anyway, I tried it out and OMG!  The pain!!  My arms are so weak that it's hard for me even to just hang.  I can't budge myself an inch from a dead hang.  I don't really have anything to stand on and the way the bar is constructed I can't put it near the floor, so what I did was give myself a jumping start and I did 3 negatives as slow as I could (which wasn't very slow, lol).  I couldn't do them all in a row, I had rest between them.  My arms and shoulders are already killing me! I think I felt it in my abs too.

I might get those resistance bands that you mentioned, paleoredhead.

The hubby tried it out and of course he did a pullup straight away even though he's never tried to do one before in his life.  Men.   ::)

Still really frickin sore from my pullup things.

Today I did the burpee/pushup/squat routine, 4 rounds with reps of 5,3,2,1.  (no idea if I'm transcribing with the right notation, but I guess it doesn't matter as long as it makes sense to me)

edit: I tried to go do just 1 pullup negative after I posted this and I think I injured myself.  ugh.  ouch.  UGH.

I've been walking a lot lately now that the weather is nice.

Been practicing on the pullup bar too.  I finally figured the best way for me to do it for now is to stand on something about waist height and then raise myself up trying to use only my arms.  I think I'm probably pulling up like 40% of my bodyweight that way.  I can still only do about 1.5 pullups like this.  Anyway, it is much less stressful on my joints than the previous method I was using, which was to jump up and try to catch myself and lower myself down.  I really overextended/hurt my arm that way, because I'm too weak to really catch myself.

Also doing pushups.  I'd like to keep this up until I can actually do a pullup, at which point I want to start this training regimen: http://www.simplefit.org/bodyweight-exercises.html

I tried day 1, level 1 of the simplefit program today using my modified pull-up (I stand on something).  It was supposed to be max rounds in 20 min of 1 pull-up, 2 pushups, 3 squats.  I only made it for 10 min and I did 10 rounds.

I'm already starting to see some muscle tone from the pull-up practicing I've been doing lately.  I'm shocked!  It is tightening up my abs, of all things.
