little dove's workout journal
« on: September 13, 2009, 06:53:46 AM »
i figured i'd start keeping track as i try to build some sort of workout up. so far i have a few basic upper body exercises, but i'm looking to figure out some other things that work for me.
yesterday i started off with 15 basic push-ups and 3 sets of 3 chair dips. (i'm pretty out of shape and haven't done much of anything for exercise in quite some time so it's a start).
this morning i did a weight and measurement check(pretty scary)
240lbs
upper arm 15.25"
upper abs/below breast 39.5"
waist 41.75"
lower ab 45.5"
hip 48"
thigh 26.75"
calf 19"
(this is pretty much the worst measurements i've ever seen for myself)

today is looking like it could turn into a good day for getting out, so i may try to do some outdoor activity/activities.

ok, so today i got the kids to hold my hands and go for a half hour walk (this was at about half my regular pace, or perhaps a bit slower than 1/2 my regular pace) and we walked what i'm guessing to be about 3/4 of a mile to a mile. we also paused so that i could try to climb one of the boulders near our place, but it was wet from all the rain we got yesterday so it was a bit slippery, not to mention i was a bit nervous about the little guys who were trying to follow me up. (i'm hoping to work up to being able to take the boys on 1-2 hr long hikes and eventually even longer ones...i loved hiking when i was a kid, and really want to start doing it more, again).
-bonus- today was sunny so we got plenty of vitamin D from the deal.

today i got started right...hehe.
6:00am- 15 crunches, 10 "bicycles" (i don't know if that's the real name for them but i always thought the movement of the legs looked a bit like i'm riding a bicycle), 5 leg lifts, 15 pushups, 3 chair dips
(we had playgroup from 9-10:30 and i talked to another parents about getting together and doing one of the kid friendly hikes in our area)
11:00am-11:30 am- walk...we went a little bit faster and a little bit further today then yesterday (getting about a half block further away from the house before turning around)
11:45am-12:45pm- outdoor play: we climbed some of the large rocks and a small boulder around our complex..the kids did it with a great deal of help from mommy, so the lifting and pulling involved was a bit of extra bonus workout for me, we also walked to the far end of the complex to the play area where i got to lift and assist the kids with climbing on some of the play equipment, then we discovered 2 balls that some of the older kids had left out and i played soccer goalie while the kids tried to throw the balls into the parking lot, after wrestling the balls away from the kids and finally convincing them to head home we walked back accross the complex to our place.
(needless to say that after lunch the kids had a nice long nap).

it was a fabulous day and i'm glad we got freshair and sunshine...we won't have to many more of this kind of day left for the year.

just did a quick measure check...it's only been 2 days and i only did a couple of measurements but noticed 1/2 inch loss in my lower abs and 1/2 inch loss off my thighs...i think by next sunday there could be a significant difference.

today i only gota little exercise in before getting attacked by the kids...
i got some ideas from the "caveman power" website...
http://www.cavemanpower.com/fitness/index.html
i started this morning with 15 pushups and 9 chair dips (3 sets of 3) and have decided to make today a chair dip focus day...i plan to have done at least 36 by the end of the day (it's another gorgeous day, so i plan to get the kids out for a walk and also take a quick walk  up to the bank, and possibly to the garden shop up the street (they are having a fall sale on shrubery and pottery and i need a bush or 2 for the front yard and would love a larger pot or 2 for a few of the house plants, so it's a good excuse to check it out).

i went above my goal for chair dips today and did 45! ( 3 sets of 3 in the morning 2 sets of 6 before lunch, 2 sets of 6 in the early afternoon and 2 sets of 6 in the evening) i didn't do a whole ton of exercise outside but i did get out for a 15 minute walk pushing a rather un-cooperative and bulky double stroller.

i just popped on breifly...can't stay on long, but wanted to write a breif update...sunday i took my weight and measurements (i'll post the measurements when i get rid of my migraine/ sinus headache), but i've lost 5 lbs and several inches in the past week. (i also gave up coffee the other day and have been having headaches since, but i think that will pass soon enough.)
