1:00 pm - Bike 40 miles (2:30 / 16 mph)

Plank road and across Hwy 211 to Camp McCall. Took it a bit easy so as not to spend our legs for run training this week with the half marathon coming up. Very nice route. Will do it again!!! Didn't see any cows to moo at though; still looking. But we did see two older home folk out crawdad fishing in a ditch!

1:00 pm - Ran 4 miles (38:53 / 9:43 pace)

Lunch hour run. Alarm did not go off this morning so I missed my workout time. Went to the YMCA during lunch hour initially to use the treadmill, but decided to change clothes there then go to the track across the street. Got bored at the track so I ran up a few blocks. There were intersections to contend with and uneven pavement so it was not a good route. But anyway, I got 4 miles in; better than nothing.

12/2/09

Getting a little "sumthin sumthin" in my chest.  Not sure how much working out I should do, but that half marathon is coming...

12/3/09

1:00 - Ran 4 miles (35:05 / 8:46 pace)

Lunch hour run from office just to get something in.

12/4/09

Chest hurts, cough.  Likely got it from secretary who was sick last week!  This is NOT the time to get run down...

12/5/09

Nothing

12/6/09

Sneeze, sneeze, cough, cough, sob, cry...  :'(

12/7/09

Took day off from work to finish recovering from illness.  Felt better than yesterday.

12/8/09

5:30 am - Ran 4 miles (37:50 / 9:26 pace)

I was afraid it might be too cold to run after having been sick and almost waited to go to the Y on lunch hour and use the treadmill. But as I was walking the dog, I decided to bundle up and go. It felt good to get out and run after being sick. I did not like having my mouth and nose covered, but figured I did not need to be heaving in cold air on my sore throat.

Not sure what to do with the rest of the week. I guess I should get in a few short runs and forego swimming and biking until after the race. Or maybe use the trainer one day as a crosstrain.

I still don't feel 100%.   :'(   I think the hardest part of training and racing is the depression that goes with illness and/or injury.  I was so excited about this race and now I don't feel like I'll be at my best.  I wonder how much fitness I lost out on with missed training (including Thanksgiving week) and how much of it I can recover with this being a taper week.  Ah well, let the chips fall where they may...

12/9/09

5:00 am - Ran 3 miles (26:35 / 8:52 pace)

12/11/09

5:00 - Ran 3 miles (26:48 / 8:54 pace)

One last quick run before leaving for Charlotte.

I am enjoying Chris Kluges Strength Training Workouts, but am wondering if it is wise to switch things up with another trainer, or the same trainer, but different exercise program to keep my muscles guessing more. Perhaps, what Im doing has enough variation that there really is no need to switch up.  Please advise.

Thanks.

Vernuskoyz - welcome!  I'm not an expert on strength training, so I'm going to let Wlfdg come answer your question.  Good luck!

First Half Marathon done!

Chip time @ 13.1 miles - 1:57:47 / 9:00 pace
Finished 1109 out of 2992 total men & women
Finished 55 out of 207 division (female 40 - 44 group)

WOW, that was a FUN RACE!  I got worried when we arrived at the expo center for packet pickup and they were selling shirts that said, "Flat is for Sissies."  I was like, "Mercy, I knew the course was a bit hilly, but just how hilly is it!?!"  So we drove the course out, and as promised it was indeed very hilly.  I've NEVER trained on hills! (my bad)  At this point I was resigned to just run my best and forget about trying to pace for a goal.  I figured that course was going to kick my behind.

But loe and behold on race day, I was on; and despite the hills and below freezing temperatures, I sure did beat that 2 hour mark!!! By the clock, it took more than 3 min just to get to the starting line after the gun went off due to the MASSIVE crowd!  I had NO IDEA it would be like that.  We could not even get to the street to line up and we started too far back from our pace group.  I am TOTALLY surprised at how easy this run went; piece of cake!  I wonder if the unplanned down time I had before the race actually helped my performance when I was so worried about missed training.

Can't wait to do it again!!!

This one not buried quite as deep as the Food Journal was!  I need to read my old threads and see what I was doing last year.  I've done a lot of training and racing since this last post to include another half marathon and a half ironman.  I'm doing my second half ironman this weekend and I've just registered for Ironman Florida next year.

So.... it's time to really buckle down and do everything right.

Since I am tapering down for my race, I only swam for 20 min and will bike and run for 20 min each after work.

While I'm here, I'll note that I'm currently dealing with ITB syndrome which has affected my training, mainly running.  I hope to get this squared away after my race so that I can start training up for a marathon.

11/10/10

5:00 a.m. - Foam Roller/Stretching, 40 min
5:45 p.m. - Stationary bike, 20 min
6:15 p.m. - Treadmill Run, 2 miles

Will do a quick swim/bike/run tomorrow, then I'm pretty much tapered down for the race Saturday.

I'll be taking 2 weeks off after the race in order to allow my IT Band to fully heal before heading right into marathon training.

Reviving my old workout journal.

Although I've not blogged here for a year, I've definitely been working out.  I started the year with my first marathon and first 50K ultramarathon and well as a few triathlons.  I later had to drop my Body Pump class while training for Ironman Florida due to the number of hours of swim, bike, run.  I also did core training twice a week to the extent possible.  I completed the Ironman am now re-focusing for winter and for new goals.

Ironman Florida, November 5, 2011
Swim (2.4 miles) = 1:29:16
Transition from swim to bike = 11:11
Bike 112 miles = 6:32:20
Transition from bike to run = 4:03
Run 26.2 miles = 4:50:25
Total = 13:04:13

I'm happy that I don't "have" to swim and bike through the winter, however I will some so as not to totally lose my fitness.  But I LOVE to run, and running is a winter sport for me, so that will be my main focus.  I have a half marathon planned for Dec 3 and a 50K Ultramarathon planned for Spring.

I'm also excited to go back to Body Pump class next week!  And will do some spin class and yoga through the winter.

11/22/2011
5:00 a.m. - Ran 6 miles (54:12) This run put me over the 1000 mile mark for the year!

Will be doing core training during my lunch hour today.

11/24/2011
8:00 a.m. - Ran 6 miles

11/25/2011
15 min Foam Roller
30 min Stretching

11/27/2011
11:00 a.m. - Trail run, 8.65 miles (Found running muscles that I didn't know I have!  I'm not a trail runner)

I've been slack since my big race and need to get back into a routine.  It's raining this morning, so I can't go out and run.  I'll do core work on my lunch hour and maybe go to spin class tonight.
