Paleo RedHead's Workout-A-Rama
« on: January 16, 2008, 10:53:44 AM »
I suppose since I log my food here I might as well log my workouts as well.
I took a short break from working out as I had some issues eating a few bad pieces of produce... but I started back up yesterday.

Tuesday
Jump Rope 3min (warm-up prior to stretching)
Ran 2 miles

Wednesday
15 Squats +6lbs
15 Plie +5lbs
24 Calf Raises (12 each leg)
12 Calf Raises (both legs)

2x5 Assisted Pullups
1x5 Assisted Dips

After this my workout was regrettably cut short. I smacked myself in the face with our very large resistance bands that were assisting me with my 2nd set of dips. I almost passed out and lost about 1/4 of my vision (bottom half of my right eye) and had some swelling on my forehead/eye region. I didn't have a black eye, thankfully, but I bruised the actual eye.

I went to an optometrist and she referred me to an opthamologist who then determined I do not need surgery and hopefully the damage done will continue to heal just like any other bruise. Thank goodness. It could have been much worse.

So lesson learned:  A) Don't look right at the bands while manipulating them
                           B) Possibly wear geeky eye protective gear
                           C) Eyes heal REALLY fast.. phew.

Thursday
Was pooped from my eyes being poked and prodded at the doctors... didn't work out.

Friday
Maybe I'll complete a strength training routine today??? Or perhaps some cardio, too?? I am so off these days, I hope I get back in to it!

Monday
Ran 1.5 miles
4x8 Lat Pull Downs w/Bar (alternating switching grips)
15 Leg Press
8 Leg Curl
10 Chest Press

I played around a bit with some of the machines at the gym. I will have more structured strength days this week.

I am struggling running right now since the weather got cold and I stopped running 3-4 times a week. It's amazing how quickly you can lose some of it. I am trying to get up to a consistent 3.1 miles straight. Then I want to get it under 30 minutes for an average of about 9 minutes a mile.

My mother is a breast cancer survivor and we do 2 "Race for the Cure" races a year. The next one is in June, so I must be ready by then! I don't feel as if I am that far off. I seem to perform much better when I have the proper amount of carbs in my system prior to working out. I am playing around with snacking times, types, amounts beforehand. I know I ran about 2.5 miles straight through when I was on vacation and it was a beautiful 70 degrees outside and I ate a (nasty but oh so good) biscuits and sausage gravy. I had no problem running on that after digesting for a few hours. Interesting...

You're doing good!  :) Good motivation too.  :)

Ya, I know... The cold weather is a killer to outdoor workouts. Coupled with lack of daylight, and how that affects your energy level, it'll definitely be a challenge. Spring is just a few months away!  :) ...That sounded better before I typed it.  :P

Thanks, KP!! I can't wait for Spring either! Hehe I'm in Texas so I'm not looking forward to 100 degree days in June/July, but I can run early in the morning and it won't be toooo bad.

Thursday
Ran around my apartment and did jumping jacks to warm my muscles prior to stretching

18 Squats +6lbs
18 Plie +5lbs
24 Calf Raises (12 each leg)
12 Calf Raises (both legs)

12 Reverse Crunches w/6lb weighted ball
24 Side Crunches (12 each side)
10 Prone Back Extensions
12 Prone Arm and leg lift

3x8 Assisted Dips
3x5 Assisted Chinups

I would have done more but tonight is Lost!!! I need to grill up my venison, jump in the shower, and ready the apartment for company. Woot.

Good golly!  You are so disciplined!  I haven't worked out in a while.  I still have a cast on my leg, but I'm trying to do what I can.

Did you watch Lost?  I love that show - I am so glad it is back.

Oh YEA. Wow.. that show is ridiculous. Have you watched it from the beginning? They are really having to kick it up a notch. So psychological!!

Yes - I love Lost!  I've watched it from the beginning.  I didn't realize it until the show was over that I was biting my lip the entire time!  The suspense was awesome this time around.  I'll miss Charlie though! He was my favorite.

We watched the first 3 seasons on DVD, so this is the first time we've ever watched it on actual TV.  The commercials are really annoying when you're used to uninterrupted viewing!

Charlie was a sweet kid, but for some reason I have a thing for Desmond.

I like Desmond too - I have a thing for accents!   ;)  I especially love to hear him say "brother".

I usually record mine on the DVR and watch on the weekends, but I really couldn't wait this time!  One thing I found out - in the past, LOST has put in fake commercials that gave hints about the show.  I found out from a very devoted  "Lostie" at work.  A while back they had some commercial with Sun as a hostess promoting something and gave a website address and phone number.  If you logged on to the website, it let you see some clues and stuff.  It was kind of neat, so I was hoping for something like that again, but they didn't do it this time.  Oh well...

I love Desmond, too. I will miss Charlie but it was time for him to go. Although Hurley is so crazy, we may get to see him more often! :) Oh and DVR is the way to go. We watched the first season on DVD, got hooked, and have watched it on TV ever since. Season 2 was the WORST to watch since they constantly took extended breaks between episodes.

Also, it's so lame that we only have 8 episodes this season. I suppose it could have been like 24 and totally cancelled for the season, but we were promised 3 more 16 episode seasons!  :P

I think we need a Lost thread on here... plus, it'd be interesting to talk about Paleo eating on the Island! Ha.

----------Workout-----------

Sunday
Grip work only -- I need grip to do all sorts of things but I want it mainly for pullups/chinups. I can't wait to prove my Mother wrong! A woman CAN do it and not look manish. I've seen it.

Monday
Ran ~1.5miles
Miscellaneous Core (i.e. crunches, side crunches)

Haha seriously!  I actually thought about that when we first started watching the show..."hey they're probably only eating fish, fruit, and coconuts....I bet they'd all be realllllllly healthy!"
