I did an upper-body workout tonight and mixed in rope jumping between sets.  It was very taxing!

Had a basketball game last night.  Only six showed for my team, so we all did a lot of running.  I had my best game personally, but we still lost again.

Lower body workout last night, and this morning I went out to the Jr. High track and ran sprints.  10x100 meters with 100 meter walk-rest in between sprints.

No activity Monday because my legs were SO sore from the sprints and tennis.  Last night I did an upper body workout with dumbells (three point row, flys, reverse curls) and a behind the neck military press with barbell.

Last night I did 30 minutes of interval training.  I started with a 5 minute elliptical wamup and then moved from pushups to hindu squats to back extensions to rope jumping to heavy bag punching.  I could only do two rounds though because it was exhausting.

I used to do a lot of boxing and was in the best shape of my life from working the punching bag, heavy bag and jumping rope.  It was a great way to relieve frustrations too!  But I didn't like sparring because then you had to take hits as well as give them...  :) Suze

PS Where is everybody?  Seems like you and I are the only ones posting these days!

Ran 10 hill sprints last night after work.  Each one is about 60-70 yards at I would guess a 30% grade.  I noticed that my heart seems to have "trained" some from when I started this a few months ago, because now my HR will get up over 170, when it used to top out at about 165

I think I need to start recording my weight.  I've been avoiding this, but since I've stalled out for so long on weight loss I think it will help to have a progress record.

I first came across this fitness plan at the end of 2005.  At that time I weighed about 270 and was not active at all (I'm about 6-2 in height).  I started eating whole foods and exercising and got down to 215 by September.  Then I let up a bit and moved up to about 228 and I've bounced back and forth between 222 and 228 since then.  I'm not actually targeting a weight, but I really think I need to get under 200.

So, this morning I weighed in at 221.  My goal for this month is to come in under 220 and then keep gradually losing about 1 lb/wk on average.

I've been pretty good on exercising, my weakness has been on eating habits.  So I think I'll post what I'm eating here as well.  Choose to ignore if you like!

This morning I took my son to McDonald's for breakfast before school and I had a sausage burrito and coffee.  Bad choice for sure, but I don't do it too often.  I think those are about 300 calories, but the tortilla is pretty hi-carb.

For lunch I had a tuna salad that I made this morning with celery, carrots, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and miracle whip.  I've snacked on some almonds this afternoon.

On to 199!

Gee - and I wonder why I can't seem to lose any more weight...

My wife asked me to pick up dinner at Long John Silver's last night (fast food fried fish filets for those of you outside of the USA).  I really had no intention of eating any of this, but I ended up eating a bunch.  Got to do better than that!

Anyway, I had a good lower body and mid-section workout later last night.  I finally was able to get my mp3 player to work with the boombox in the garage so I rocked out to some songs I hadn't heard in while.  While today I enjoy everything from classical to country to jazz, my tastes revert back to when I was 16 in 1983 when I lift.  It was a steady mix of (pre-Pyromania when they started to suck...) Def Leppard, Saxon, and Triumph.  Good times

Oh man, I love Def Leppard!  And the Scorpions...

But anyhow what I wanted to tell you was that my weight loss was in a holding pattern as well, until I started fasting once a week.  It is pretty difficult sometimes (read my journal on the subject) but it definitely helped me.  Not only with just the net caloric deficit for the week, but as a mental exercise as well.  I have a tough time saying no to food, always have, but fasting makes you reevaluate your relationship to hunger - makes it less scary, if you will.

And don't beat yourself up too much about the Long John Silvers food.  Living is a process, and everything you do is relevant.  Suze

Thanks - I appreciate the good words.  I've tried starting by skipping dinner, but even that's difficult for me.  I think you're right though about how it will help me think about food differently.

I did 30 minutes on my elliptical trainer last night and made a "stir-fry" of beef slices and a variety of vegetables.  I had the leftovers for breakfast this morning, but I just came across some mini Hershey's bars and before I knew it, had devoured four.

Still trying to figure out what to do for exercise today.

Let's see.  I had an upper body workout a couple of days ago.  I played basketball last night (10 pts, but 0-6 from the line) and I did a full body weight workout today.  I went back and re-read Art's Evolutionary Fitness essay and changed my workouts.  I'm going to try his idea of go 10 reps at a fairly light weight, then 7 reps at a heavier weight followed by 4 at a still heavier weight.  The goal is to end up with a weight that induces muscle growth, yet is not so heavy that it can't be lifted with perfect form.

Oh, and I ran across a great song on my mp3 that I haven't heard in a long while - Krokus "Long stick goes boom"

My eating this week has been terrible. I'll start out well, yet it seems that every day I cave in at some point and eat things like ice cream and chocolate.

I'm not expecting good things when I weigh in tomorrow.  At different points this week I've seen numbers as high as 225.  I guess the 221 last Friday was a fluke.  I was probably dehydrated.

Off tomorrow to Garner state park for one night of camping with the family.

Dang!  I haven't done much in since my last post on 3/15.  I had a softball game last week on Monday, but didn't get in any workouts until yesterday when I lifted.

I don't even want to think about the scale, since my eating has been terrible.  New start yesterday though.

Part of my problem is that my knees have been killing me.  They've been somewhat arthritic for years and it didn't help when I sprained one playing basketball.  They actually feel better today than they have since the softball game last week.  I think the deadlifts may have helped.
