Ahh yeah I suppose phase 3 could be seen as a second strength workout so that would probably work with waterbury's study. I'll just make sure I have a heavy log.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

A sledgehammer and a big old truck tire is pretty inexpensive and doable.

Never really done squats before, is it easy to screw them up?

Start light
go down slow
drop between your legs, "a$$ to the grass"
don't bounce at the bottom.
stand up fast
Inhale down, exhale up
chest up, push your belly out to create a column of support
Keep the bar high on your shoulder, squeeze your shoulder blades together

Take your time learning the form.

Can't keep my heels on the ground, most how to squat things say you need to keep your heels on the ground..

Stretch out your calves, a lot and often. You can start with some small plates under your heels. Some folks find front squats easier to learn to drop low with.

Well that was educational. I really need to do squats.

Did 5 x 5 with 16kg dumbbells, and now I can't walk up or down stairs :)

Those muscles definitely need some work.

Great article, and pleasing kinda like my training is evolving in to.  Currently 20-25mins heavy strength training followed by some sort of GPP (usually barbell complex and maybe some work lifting and carrying either the broken punch bag at the gym or my sandbag at home)

Now need to think about so low intensity CV stuff, probably walking.  Not too sure about the agility drills

This is very much what crossfit is about. Functional movements, high intensity for variable intervals. Form (meaning your looks) will follow function. The total body results will come without focus on specific muscle groups.
