Ahhhm, these articles basically are the counterpart to this forum. There are a lot of fallacies in regard to - not stretching, not doing situps or pushups when wanting to get bulk. Stretching is so important when at the gym - most people don't do this, but warming up / stretching prevents injuries.

Also the 2nd article mentions and encourages absolutely everything of what the paleolithic way of life contends, going against the grain (figuratively).

"Now aside from your palpable fear about the number I just threw at you, here's another hard reality: you can't do this eating "clean." You'll have to eat a lot of fat, including things like (take a deep breath) butter, mayo, pizza, ice cream, and high-fat meats and dairy products." - That was a quote from article 2.

AND

"For the rest of you who are truly serious about gaining weight, just understand that the loss of visible ab development is part of the price you'll have to pay. Later on, when you weigh 265, you can trim down to 220 or so and have your abs back, But for now, let's just worry about acquiring something to trim in the first place.". - LOL, I am currently 155 pounds - imagine if I bulked to 265 - I would be dead.

The trainer dude for these articles is absolutely insane, and a healthier alternative I believe would be to inject steroids - as opposed to starting up this cholesterol infested, obesity susceptible diet plan.

Also my opinion is that working your abs is absolutely essential as it is your core, and foundation of the body.

Cheers anyway for the articles, but if anyone is wanting to follow it I would strongly advise against the 2nd article - the first article was somewhat okay.

I didn't see much of a problem with the articles.

Lift big - Is vital and I'm slowly coming to understand this.  I never realized how important deadlifts were...

Eat big - Eating a lot of fat is easy and quite paleo.  Just stick to the hig-fat meats bit of the list and ignore the rest.  If you skip the carbs you won't get fat at the same time and you might be able to keep your abs showing.

Sleep big - I don't know enough to find fault with this and it seems to make sense...

You don't need to do ab specific exercises.  If you use free weights (and stand), then you work your core with every exercise.  Having visible abs is all about low body fat and has very little to do with ab work.

Okay, I am a bit confused here as to the aforementioned statement pertaining to the eating fat part.

Icecreams, butter, mayo and pizza is not paleo at all?

The article is not specifically a paleo article, but has great information nonetheless.  Just substitute paleo foods for the non-paleo suggestions.  The point of the article is to eat more fat; not necessarily that it has to be in the form of pizza and ice cream.

Try lard, tallow, walnuts, avocados, fatty cuts of meat etc.  I make my own mayo out of eggs and walnut oil, but that's just me.

Garrulous, Saturated fat is not the evil demon it is made out to be. You need it for hormone and Vit.D production. One of those hormones is Testosterone!

I mentioned in your training journal that I didn't agree with his dairy recommendations.

I agree with Tarlach, ab training is not essential. Overhead lifts work your core more completely than any crunch ever will. I do decline Janda sit ups because I like to do them.

Charles Staley is far from "insane"! In fact he is one of the most knowledgeable coaches in the world.

If you think about it, the routine and ideas he talks about are pretty similar to starting strength, by Mark Rippetoe.

The exercises are more enjoyable as well, not mindlessly curling but rather engaging you whole body do complete a squat, etc.

Hey about the bf%, I keep loosing fat (I can tell because my abs are starting to show, slowly but every week I can see them more). Does this mean I am not eating enough? Or is it just because I am a noob so I can lose fat and create muscle at the same time?

This style of training has been around since Ancient Greece in one form or another. Maybe longer, who knows?

Are you getting stronger and losing bodyfat? The more muscle you build the more efficiently your body will use fat for energy.

So how is racquetball coming along? Which I might add, is basically HIIT, which allows you to take advantage of EPOC.

I have toned it down (off season). Around twice a week with friends, much much less intense games :(. In a week, I lift 3 times and play racquetball twice.

I don't know, I just oppose the idea of becoming fat in order to get muscle - I simply will not do it.

I would rather eat copious amounts of flesh, vegetables, fruit and nuts. Sure it will take longer, or I may reach to a point where muscle development will impede as a result of me not eating mcdonalds everyday.

I feel as though if I eat all of that junk it will just be too hard to work it off. I remember, I weighed at something like 80 kilos to drop to 65 kilos a few years back and it took me 6 months of cycling up mountains (really) almost everyday, and doing aikido training 5 times a week, as well as just drinking water and living on subway. So no way would I put myself through that torture again, good luck to any of you who is that determined of becoming big, I commend you for it.

No one is talking about eating bad foods, this is all in a paleo context.

About getting fat, I am with you in that. But it is easier to gain muscle when you are eating more. I have a friend that bulks until he is 10-12% bf, then cuts for a couple of weeks and gets back at 8%. This is by no means getting fat, yes you are getting "fat" for some period of time, but you are limiting yourself to 10-12%bf max, which is fairly lean.

Eating fat doesn't make you fat.  Carbs make you fat.

Like Wlfdg, I have been dropping fat and building muscle at the same time.
