The Ido Portal Method
« on: October 03, 2013, 04:57:37 PM »
Hey guys. Just wanted to point you this guy, Ido Portal. I found out about him around March of this year and have slowly been incorporating what he preaches over time. I even recently flew to another country to attend one of his workshops.

He really takes an evolutionary approach to ''exercising''. But he doesn't exercise, he MOVES. Movement is his obsession, all aspects of it. So he has incorporated loads of stuff from lots of disciplines into his own method. It's really fascinating stuff.

Here's a Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/portal.ido
Website (under construction): http://www.idoportal.com/
Old blog (lots of hidden gems): http://idoportal.blogspot.co.il/
Youtube (so inspirational): http://www.youtube.com/user/portaldo

Enjoy! Let me know what you think and if you have any questions, I might be able to answer them!

This reads like an advertisement.  I know of the 'natural movement' folks but please provide more information or specifics or these links may be removed.

Thanks for understanding!

No problem. When I reread this post now I can see why you'd think this might be an advertisement. I guess I'm just too enthusiastic about this method.

The reason I mainly just posted links is I find it's really hard to explain this method to people. I tell them, ''this guy is teaching movement'' and they say, ''so what, I move every day''. But most of them don't really move. Or if they do, they it in an really linear fashion. Crossfit is a good example. Because it's grown to be a sport, everything has to be measurable, do this and that for reps or time, the same exact movement over and over. I do not think this is the way humans evolved.

Hmm, I guess that those who practice 'natural movement' are doing a pretty good job keeping healthy. But I'm sure most of them are missing a lot in order to become complete Movers. Ido Portal has traced down teachers all over the world in various disciplines to study from them. One of his quotes is ''isolation-integration-improvisation''. He trains specifically some movements in order to chain them together and ultimately PLAY with them. Then he also does a lot of stuff that is mainly for PRE-habilitation purposes, to prevent injuries. For example, he does wrist push-ups. That is when the back of the hands are on the floor and doing push-ups. So if he ever falls and his wrist bends on the floor, he actually might not injure himself. Those strong wrists also really help with doing handstands and other floor work.

I'm not a writer and this method is simply to vast to be able to explain it all in a short post so I just gave some examples.

I can attest that Ido is legit. He has posted tons of free stuff on YouTube for us regular folks (i.e., people unable to fly to the far-reaches of the globe for one of his seminars).

Cool guys.  I'd heard of Edwin le corre but to be honest it doesn't interest me a ton (however I have NOT watched the videos; it's easy to get pumped watching nearly anything on Youtube :))
