Best thing to eat Pre/Post Crossfit
« on: April 01, 2011, 07:17:56 PM »
Hi I need something to eat before (30minutes) and after ( within hour) of Crossfit. I am still trying to loose the last 10 pounds and I am on Paleo now. I am female 43 and go crossfit 4x week and rest 3 ( or run 1) out of 3. I am gaining muscle and did loose weight, but sorta at a  stand still and need more power in my lifts and weights.. Any suggestions are appreciated..

Cant go wrong with a banana before a good workout.  After a workout protien is good.  Since you probably dont do supplements eat some meat & veggies

Depends on what your doing.. From what I know about crossfit it seems like a high intensity thing like px90 or insanity.. So a banana would be fine.. After a shake would be fine but just keep in mind a shakes not paleo.  So if you have time to make some food go with food.  Im still trying to shake off my old ways of chuging a shake after working out 2 ;)

90% I eat eggs and sausage or Bacon before work.. I maybe do shake 2 times a week. Yea its high intensity some days worse then others :) My WOD is only 50 minutes with 15 to warm up and the rest to do WOD..

I never really heard of crossfit untill I got on this site.  Im not sure why but its very popular with the paleo community.  I looked at the site.. Since cross fit posts workouts of the day why do people pay to go to class if you can just do the plan in any gym?  Also is there a system or plan to the workouts?  Im just trying to figure it out as its not very big where I live..

Gym - no trainer that is free and is with you at each WOD
Crossfit is a Trainer center not a gym
I have joined many gyms and never got results like crossfit..
always a system you have to make sure there is a system to all WOD's. we hardly ever do anything twice in a row
you never go up in weight unless the trainer makes sure your form is good
and its as cheap as a gym ( at least here)
Never bored with same ole routine, no machines
Support, Support always  :D

Is the WOD what everyone in crossfit does all over the planet for that day?  Or is it different from place to place.. Suport is good for some people I have a class M & W at the gym I go to called x-camp its kinda like crossfit from what I can tell much more variety lways full body no rests.  The class is geared for fight conditioning but some "civilians" get in on it too.  One of the guys I work with is a real turd if he doesnt have someone screaming at him he wont do anything.. I been draging him to class for weeks I like seeing him get yelled at.  Maybe one day he will actually puke...I think most times you can create WODs and just use the clock as your motivation... On heavy days its good to have a buddy so you have a spotter..

I think people pay big bucks to go to commercial Cross-Fit classes because the expense is a motivating factor.  You want to feel like you're getting something for your $200 a month.  Also, if I am going to be doing a lot of hard exercise I find it motivating to have other people there pushing me on.

I found eating light before a Crossfit workout is best. I learned the hard way.. I ate eggs and bacon an hour before a workout and I was puking a half hour after my workout.. So it's best to eat light. I always have a banana in the car for after. If not i'm so hungry! When I get home I eat lots of protein and veggies. Alot of people drink protein shakes after the WOD.

You go to the class because there are people(coaches) that are certified to teach and will show you how to do each WOD before you do it. I tried to do it myself at my old gym but it's hard when you don't understand some of the things. You also get great support from the people who you are working out with. Every gym is different as for the WOD. Most of the time our coaches make them up on their own and sometimes they take them from the website. Unfortunatly it is expensive where I live because there are not many where I am at...
