Anybody do hill sprints?
« on: August 07, 2013, 11:27:08 AM »
I have the intention of adding hill sprints to my workout routine, perhaps 1-2 times per week. My understanding is that hill sprints are great for conditioning and have a decent strength component as well. That said, I am doing some research around my area to find potential sites. I know I need about a 40-50 yard stretch to sprint, but I wondered if anyone here new what the optimal grade would be. Feel free to share your experiences with hill sprints. Thanks for the input. 8)

I do them occasionally (0-2 times per week).  I jog about 1/3 mile to a small hill (definitely a noticeable incline, but nothing extreme, not sure of the grade/elevation increase), probably run about 5-8 40 yard sprints (depending on how much energy I have), then jog home.  It takes about 40 minutes from start to finish.  You definitely feel it in your abs/hammies/quads the next day.

One thing I'd like to start doing is varying the elevation and length of my sprints.  Perhaps one day do 10 60 yard sprints on a flatter surface, then later that week do 5 30 yard sprints on a more extreme incline.

My daughter and I run hills sprints as suicide runs like in basketball or soccer training minus the line touch. We live near a hill with a steep incline and parking signs nicely spaced. We do 5 or 6 sets sprinting to each sign with a jog back working are way up the hill.
