Try not to over think cardio too much. the most effective form of cardio for fat loss is the one you enjoy. otherwise it will become a chore, which is bad for numerous reasons and also you will find every excuse in the book not to do it. i think the best form is some form of group competitive activity as these are often HIIT ( im not HIIT all the way different approaches work for different people, i myself like a combination) and peer pressure is an excellent way to ensure you keep it up.

now as for making the cardio you perform more efficient - you need to keep insulin & RQ (respiratory quotient) low if these are not low you arent getting the full possible benifits of fat loss. remember amino acids can trigger an insulin response. you need a way to realise FFAs the body will do this naturally with exercise but there are certain things that can be done to increase this. and once you have increased release of FFAs you need to use them ie exercise.

I always perform cardio
First thing on AM Fasted. no carbs consumed after 6pm the previous evening.
cup of black coffee 30-45mins before
then fast after completing cardio as we know excess calories are still burnt once we stop moving and so i want to keep insulin and RQ low and reap all the rewards of the cardio I have performed.

   Its not a one day goal and requires some time to achieve this.Unfortunatley the best and fastest way to eliminate fat (esp off the lower body) is running. I know, I hate running, too, but it is the absolute best way.
No it isn't. Infact it's not even a good way. Running releases cortisol and the body catabolizes lean tissue.
Less lean tissue you carry the less efficient the body is at burning fat for fuel.
Since the best way to reduce bodyfat is to increase lean body mass running is at the bottom of the list.
Lots of skinny runners. Not a whole lot of lean ones.

Spot reduction is a falacy.

The best way I have found to cut body fat is to get a lot of good quality sleep.  It's far too complicated a subject to get into here but I highly recommend reading Lights Out - Sleep, Sugar and Survival, it's helped me get lean bigtime and with much less effort.  Why waste an extra hour in the gym when you could be sawing logs instead?

Oh and to add to the debate about cardio vs strength training or whatever you want to call it I agree that strength training is the way to go, less time in the gym and lifting weights or similar activities does give you a cardiovascular workout (you might recall your heart racing after a particularly hard set).  I used to be a long-course triathlete and all that did was make me skinnier and gave me a chubby belly from excess cortisol, no bueno!

I personally think that a combo of both cardio and weights/strength training is necessary.  I am a marathon runner, and am by no means skinny - I look like a sprinter!
However, I too, would like to lean out a bit.  I am a bit bulky (muscle) for female.

Jogging?? What kind of exercise is that?
Start doing some serious lifting, and sprint running, forget silly jogging, it's for wimps.

Heavy squats, and 90 second b*lls to the walls springs on trainer are excellent ways to lean out.
