School lunch menu

I don't see the punchline in this one.
There is a typo in it... I hope.

This sounds great! I hope you'll post pictures when it's done.

How about monkey bars? I don't know how old your kids are but it could be good fun for you now, and them, when they're old enough.

Thank you, Avelin.

Samjohn, thanks for the encouragement. A food journal is a good idea. I've sort of been keeping a journal since we started eating Paleo but it's on paper, not on the computer.

Oh, I forgot to add before, I've lost 10 pounds so far and 3 inches off my waist, judging by my belt. My daughter has lost 9 pounds.

Hi folks.
My family and I have been eating Paleo for about a month now and I just got a boost of encouragement, besides feeling great.

I went to the doctor for a check up/blood work and got the results today.
My total cholesterol went from 245 a year ago, to 219 now.
HDL went from 54 to 47.
LDL was 168, now 156.
Triglycerides were 114, now 79.
Also, a lingering problem with anemia, that I've had for 2 1/2 years, is completely gone.
I still have a ways to go but this is not bad for 3 1/2 weeks.

This is particularly encouraging for my husband and 13 year old daughter, who have Familial Hypercholesterolemia. Our hope is to get the whole family healthy and my husband and daughter off all of their medications.

Diet and nutrition / Re: Yikes - lecithin in herb tea

I've been sitting here enjoying a nice cup of tea while reading the forum. This thread got me wondering and, sure enough, there is soy lecithin in it.  :(

This is a good question and a good thread. I've been wondering the same thing. However, I've found that after eating paleo for only 2 weeks, I don't crave sweets. Not even chocolate!

Diet and nutrition / Re: Nightshades?
« on: March 21, 2011, 11:21:03 PM »
Thank you, everyone. A lot of good info here. We always have a big garden and grow a lot of tomatoes and peppers, among other things . The thought of having to give them up was a bit discouraging. Before it's planting time, maybe we'll try cutting out nightshades for a while then reintroducing them and see what happens.
Thanks again.

Diet and nutrition / Nightshades?
« on: March 20, 2011, 09:00:33 PM »
I've been reading around the site and seeing people saying not to eat tomatoes and peppers. Why is that?
I've got Cordain's book, "The Paleo Diet" and, while he says to avoid nightshades, I didn't see an explanation as to why. Also, several recipes in his book have tomatoes and peppers in them.
Can anyone enlighten a noobie?

Hi, my name is Amy. My family and I started easing our way into eating paleo a couple of weeks ago. We are still doing research and have questions but this site has already helped quite a bit.
