Exercises / Re: How important is cardio?
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:43:48 PM »
Cardio is important ...

In order to lose weight you must burn calories and when you burn calories you lose weight. However, if you already have a good figure and don't have fat to burn but, just muscle to build than you could just do strength training in order to build some muscle definition. However, adding cardio to your workout routine would be a great idea and even if you do not like it, it will benefit you in the long wrong and most likely give you better & faster results.  ;D

Exercises / Re: Cooking meat too long?

When cooked, fat turns into a liquid and can indeed "remove itself" by running out. That's called rendering. Some will stay in the ball, though, and it can burn if the cooking vessel gets too hot.      :o

Exercises / Re: Does anyone else have shoulder pain
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:33:08 PM »
Have been biking, walking and some swimming.  Just can't do any upper body work with this damn shoulder.  I injured it doing simple pushups 3 months ago.  seems to do better, then I seem to re-injure it when I work out again...any advise?

Unfortunately, if your shoulder is injured you must stop with physical activities and rest painful area. This type of injuries takes up to couple of months (if you don't take it serious for a lifetime) to be cured. Visit your GP, do additional checkups and rest. Good luck!

More about Cortisone injections...

Cortisone injections can be used to treat the inflammation of small areas of the body (local injections), or they can be used to treat inflammation that is widespread throughout the body (systemic injections). Examples of conditions for which local cortisone injections are used include inflammation of a bursa (bursitis), a tendon (tendonitis), and a joint (arthritis). Knee arthritis, hip bursitis, painful foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff tendinitis and many other conditions may be treated with cortisone injections.

I'll try to add something for persons with other health difficulties and proteins, hope that I wasn't off topic.
There are some studies that have shown people with pre-existing kidney disfunctions can worsen their conditions by eating high protein diets. There is no credible evidence that high protein diets are detrimental or cause disfunction in a healthy person. In terms of how much, every fitness/diet "expert" will tell you something different. The middle of the road answer is something like 1gram per pound of bodyweight. A very heavy person might want to only do 1gram per pound of lean bodymass instead.

Diet and nutrition / Re: Interesting Diet Coke reaction

Here are my 2 cents and question about diet coke...

I'm trying to live a better lifestyle, exercising more and smarter, cutting my portion sizes and eating healthier - but one thing that I've found that is hard for me is cutting out soft drinks. I've had one or two a day for a while now, and its been hard to just drink water instead. So, while I know that I can get the caffeine I want from tea, it just isn't the same.
I know that soda - colas, especially - aren't good for you and while I've switched to diet coke to cut the calories from the sodas, just how bad are these drinks for me?  :o

Diet and nutrition / Re: Is there a good substitute for cream in coffee?

There are low fat nondairy creamers that have less sugar. I'm lactose intolerant and use it frequently.   ;)

Introductions / Re: New to Paleo - With Questions!
« on: August 02, 2011, 05:30:20 AM »
Hi Cohu,
I'm also new and similar question bothers me too. My wife is pretty fit, but I'm not.  To get better shape and start with proper diet, I'll try to read as many as possible suggestions from this forum, then  I'll build my personal plan. That will include eating habits, physical exercise (I was before exercising in gym and practicing different sports but give up of everything lately.) and diet if its possible. I'll start today and we will see first results in few weeks.
