Diet and nutrition / Breaking sugar addiction
« on: April 05, 2011, 06:45:34 AM »
Well it took a while, but i've come to the conclusion that i'm addicted to sugar, bread, ect. Fruit and potatos dont set me off however...

But this addiction explains why eating healthy and reaching my goals has been so hard for me. I literally get depressed towards the end of my meals when i start getting full and i know they'll be no cookies lol. Now i know the depression means im doin it right.

I plan on having a sweet potato or two every night as going cold turkey sets you up for failure due to upregulation of seritonin transmitters. So besides that any tips for getting through this beast? The thought of being able to enjoy real healthy food and feeling great without cake is nice, but its not so easy when im geting full amd yet still feel "empty" in some way.

Diet and nutrition / How'd your superbowl go?
« on: February 06, 2011, 08:07:07 PM »
Food-wise i mean...mine was pretty bad actually lmao....but i sort of let myself go. It wasn't a binge really it was mostly to see how I would feel after eating "normally" compared to my new WOE.

Well 3 beers, a dounut, a canoli, 2-4 cookies, a few pieces of bread with butter, a plate of sausage n peppers and a small bowl of ice-cream later (on top of the paleo food i ate today) and I feel like absolute SHIT. I'm staring at all the deserts right now and I couldn't eat any of it right now if my life depended on it. I felt like I was at a halfway point between the SAD and this WOE, but now I see there's no turning back, which is good.

So even though tommorow morning's going to blow, at least I know i'm on the right track. I'm more inclined than ever to eat right. I can't wait till this time tommorow!

I'm sure most of you experienced...."paleoers"....did much better than me, and sure i coulda stuck to the taco dip and been okay, but i learned a valuable lesson this way....

How'd you guys do?

Food Journals / Milkycereal's wild and wacky food journal!
« on: February 01, 2011, 06:30:18 PM »
Well not really. I just need this journal to get the hang of eating paleo. I haven't had a non-paleo food in a few weeks now, but i'm not sure if I got it down correctly (as far as if im getting too much of this or too little of that. )

I'm 19, 5'3 and as of 2/1/2011 im 117lbs (with clothes on, idk if tht matters). I usually fluctuate between 115 and 120.

My goal is not so much to add bulky mass but to gain strength and speed and endurance and just be overall in great shape. I wanna pack on some lean muscle too.

I'm also a fan of IF, but that combined with my new weekly schedual AND my new diet it's a bit tricky for me, hence all the almonds i've been eating... for today:

Woke up at 6am

-Ate a largish green apple at 10am before work

-Ate a whole 6oz. can of almonds between 1pm-5pm (a little much i know, I might replace this with another apple on tuesdays/thurdays when i have full dyas of work and school)

-At 7pm I sliced up a small steak (i think about 1/ 3 of a pound) with four scrambled eggs and about alittle over a cup of brocolli. All cooked with a tbsp of coconut oil. I also put  1/4th of a cup of mild cheddar cheese on it.

With dinner i had some salad with black olives and olive oil/lemon. There was grilled chicken in the salad too (it was someone's leftover grilled chicken salad)

Cup of green tea

I might have a cup of decaf coffee with a tbsp of heavy cream in a lil...but thats it for today. I'll try to be more percise wiith the measuremants but i eyeballed it today and don't remeber exactly how much brocolli/steak i had

Diet and nutrition / whats wrong with cheese?
« on: February 01, 2011, 03:29:41 PM »
I understand you guys don't drink milk because of the sugars in it, but whats wrong with cheese? isn't it the same as butter/cream in that the sugars are removed? I know butter/cream/cheese arent the best fats but as someone who isn't lactose intolorent in anyway, why should i still avoid cheese? is it because it's too delicous of a fat? I'm serious, its easy to eat too much cheese, is that why you avoid it?

Exercises / Need help with my weekly schedual...
« on: January 30, 2011, 07:48:35 PM »
I'm a 19yo male, i'm 5'3 and 120ish pounds at most right now, I wanna add on lean muscle and get stronger. Think Bruce Lee...I know you gata work hard to be like that;  to be lean but f*ckin strong and functional and healthy, but that's how i want to be.

Problem is my week is already kinda packed. I would love to train like crazy but i got stuff to do lol.

I have work and school, but by work i don't mean standing behind a register. I pack out dairy at Stop and Shop and I usually have to pack out Juice/Milk, so most of the hours i work i'm lifting heavy and walking around and freezing my ass off...It's tiring and sometimes i worry my body doesnt have time to recover from my actual workouts. Packing out juice doesn't really feel like a workout either since it can last for 4+hours. It feels more like grunt work as opposed to a "fight" or a "hunt", you kno?

I just started eating Paleo recently and school just started, so i'm still adjusting, but I was burnt out at work this week.

My week usually goes like this

Sun - Work 3-9
Mon - Off
Tues- Work/School from (work 10-5)
Wed -Off
Thursday- Work/School from (work 10-5)
Friday -School 9-12 Work 5-9
Sat- Work 3-9

Honestly what do you guys think? Being a student and all, maybe i should take another day off? I can always workout on my days off but is it placing too much strain on my body?

Oh, and what sort of excercises/movements/routines get you in shape like Bruce, as opposed to...idk Arnold Schwarzenegger?

I don't want to be wider then i am tall...

How do you guys reach complete satiety? After a my main meal (steak and veggies) i'm still a bit hungry. Sometimes i have a cravign for something sweet. Instead of going out and buying another steak, what's something i can fill up on?

I know about almonds but i was in this position last night and already ate a whole can during the day

Diet and nutrition / Getting through the transition phase
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:06:29 PM »
well after one week of paleo i feel like poop. but i understand after a while you feel great. After starting IF I feel yucky eating all day, so im giving this a chance.

Any tips on getting through the transition phase? i think i almost got through it this week but i got a sweet potato in the microwave right now thats gonna send me out of what little ketosis i may have been

how long did it take for you to start actually FEELING the benifits of this WOE?

I've been following the warrior diet for a few months. I'm a 19 year old male, 5'3 (yeap) and around 120lbs right now. I'm not in bad shape by any means, but i could be better.

My goal is to get lean, mean, and healthy. I've found undereating/eating phases of the WD to fit me very well, but i realized that if I really want this to work i need to cut out all grains. One piece of bread is too many but then a million is not enough.

I used to workout when i was like 16, my method was lift and eat everythign in site. I got big, but i was getting the whole "mighty mouse" look since i'm so short. So i stopped working out, but kept eating as much as a wanted. Then I got a new job working register at a doller store, so i really wasn't doing much physical activity.

Well last summer i decided to start excercising for health. Function before form, you know? Its funny seeing a huge muscle head getting his ass whooped. I want to be able to run, jump, push, pull, punch, kill...just feel like i can kick ass at any moment. Again, i wantd to be a lean, mean, biological machine.

Started with the 6 meals a day bit, had random energy levels and would often end up binging at the end of the day anyway.

Then moved to WD, found it to be awsome except the carbs were killing me. I wasnt hungry till i ate, but as soon as i flipped the carb switch i'd turn into a different person. It was waaayy too easy for me to undo a weeks worth of work in one night.

SO that led me here. I was shocked about cutting the dairy but  I understand that bit now. It was a little too calorie-dense for me too. And i work in the dairy department at Stop and Shop so its nice not to be surrounded by food all day anymore.

And the WD fits nicely here too. During the day you're activily "hunting", while munchin on an apple or some nuts. then after you make the "kill" (the workout) you can eat Paleo style.

MY questions are:

1: How many of you follow some form of IF to go along with Paleo?

2: I'm 19 and still living at home, what are some easy Paloe meals (think peppers/onions/steak/oil in a pan) I can whip up without having to destroy moms kitchen everynight? It kills me that i don't have my own place. I'd be going nuts with the cooking and experimenting. Getting tired of all the eggs

Sorry this is so long and this post is getting glitchy so ima cut it off here for now...
