Recipes and meal photos / Chocolate Pudding!
« on: June 01, 2011, 01:27:38 PM »
So delicious! I found this recipe... http://stevepaleo.blogspot.com/2011/04/paleo-chocolate-pudding.html  And made it but with a banana instead of the honey. I layered it in a sundae glass alternating with blueberries. HOLY CRAP it's good! Made it for my husband and he is napping right now. I bet he will be super psyched about it when he wakes up! These would probably be good for kid's lunches as a little treat once in a while when you are feeling nice! Or a tasty dessert on the weekend perhaps. My two year old son went nuts for it.

Miscellaneous / Trainers?
« on: May 31, 2011, 02:06:14 PM »
Anyone here a trainer? I wonder if they would accept someone who was a trainer that also paired it with paleo nutrition. That would be crazy awesome. I'd be all over that season :D

Miscellaneous / Gluten allergies, celiac, heartburn and asthma
« on: March 23, 2011, 01:53:22 PM »
So, my husband has asthma. He had his first attack (landing him in the ER) at 13. Since we got married he wound up in the ER several times and has recently gotten it very under control. How? Heartburn meds. So weird how that helped, but it did. He gets heartburn a lot and it causes asthma flare ups. Knowing this and after reading this I really want him to get checked out for Celiac's Disease and vitamin deficiencies. I bet going paleo will really help his asthma and heartburn after reading these... That would be fantastic if he didn't have to take heartburn pills daily. He also has various other symptoms related to gluten sensitivity or allergies. Hmmm....

"For people who are sensitive to grain-based foods—such as people who have autoimmune diseases of any kind, or Celiac disease in particular—grains can cause frequent heartburn. While heartburn is frequently dismissed as a minor complaint, it can actually expose a larger and more completely treatable disease such as an autoimmune disease or Celiac disease. The Paleo diet is very beneficial for people who have autoimmune diseases or Celiac disease." http://www.stronghealthtips.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/paleo-diet-heartburn

And this entire post (very brief but has links to sources which I really appreciated) http://surefoodsliving.com/2011/02/asthma-is-linked-to-gluten-study-finds-and-so-did-i/

Introductions / Very excited!
« on: March 20, 2011, 09:46:49 PM »
Hello! I am new here (obviously, hence my posting in this topic...). Anyway, I am a 25 year old stay at home mother of two year old and 5 month old boys. I love it. I have always wanted to be healthier but have always lacked energy and motivation. I also love food. I actually learned about the paleo diet when my 5 month old was having some issues. After some research I decided it was very likely he had a milk protein allergy and cut out all dairy (he is exclusively breastfed). He has gotten better! After all the reading I did it somehow brought me to reading about the paleo diet. It made a lot of sense to me and all of the things it is supposed to help with (energy, depression, etc.) I would love to help improve :) I am currently on day three and love it. I am much less sleepy throughout the day, never hungry and more focused than before. Hopefully it continues to get better! My husband is fairly on board and I think he will be moreso once he gets used to it. He doesn't know much about it but seems genuinely interested in trying it so I am trying to pass along all that I can from everything I have come across.

Oh yeah, for some reason when I type I type A LOT! I'm normally not a huge talker... Weird. So, question. About when did you start feeling somewhat better, moderately better and a lot better as a result of going paleo? Just curious :) I am sure it may be somewhat of a placebo effect but that would be figured out pretty quick as it wouldn't last (for me).
