Workout Journals / Spax's fat to (Cross)Fit extravaganza!!!

By 'extravaganza' I mean one day of crossfit a week and following the guardian's 'Army guide to fitness' programme from the 4 week beginner all the way through to the end.

The reason I've started this thread is so that I can track my progress and to try and stop me from quitting.

So today I have my first of two introduction sessions at a crossfit gym near my home, it runs from 2030-2130.

Then tomorrow I have to go to uni in the AM which is about a 4 mile round trip which I'll be walking, I'll find out the exact distancing using an app on my phone.

So once I've done the intro sessions I'll start true crossfit once per week and then every other day will attempt to complete the training that is highlighted in the army fitness guide beginners session, so hopefully I will be a lot fitter this time next month.


Diet and nutrition / Should I still eat fat if aiming to reduce body fat?

So should I be going leaner? I like fatty cuts like pork belly and sirloin. But I am trying to loose weight, or should I cut out the fruit and go meat and veg only?

The main reason I ask is that I expected a bit more weight loss, I've only lost about 7lbs since I started the diet three weeks ago. Having said that my exercise rate hasn't really increased so I guess my losses wouldn't be as good as I'd hoped.

I've seen this in my local asian market, any ideas what it is or if it's okay for paleo?

As the title says. I think I'm just really stressed as I'm in my final year of uni and it seems just so much easier to eat junk food. It's only been this weekend, I just crumbled and went to a takeaway. Now I feel really bloated and awful. I also suffer depression and feel on the verge of a massive dip.

Any advice? General advice and dietary advice to maybe help with my low mood would be appreciated.

I'm starting to feel a bit constipated (been paleo for two weeks now), and constipation is something which has plagued me all my life. I drink between 1.5-2 litres of water per day. So should I be looking to break the paleo diet and maybe have a few tablespoons of oats or something each day (ala Dukan diet) or is there a paleo way around this?

Exercises / Queries about starting CrossFit

So CrossFit looks like the way to go, but I've like NEVER exercised in my life, so I don't want to aim too high. I'm thinking maybe I should learn to run 5k before I start with CrossFit and burn myself out too quickly. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can start. I don't have/can't afford access to a gym, and I don't have any weights or much space at home. So I'm thinking running. Also I've got like three months off uni where I just have to 'study', so plenty of time to go jogging/running.

I never thought in my youth that I would be a jogger  :o

This is more of a guide to an idea than a recipe.

I'm a shift worker and so I always look for either 'instant gratification' or 'chuck it together and leave it' recipes when I'm in the middle of my shift pattern, and it usually means I'm cooking for myself. So here's todays, it's lovely.

Preheat your oven to about 190C, then gather any ingredients you like (I used a chicken leg quarter, some broccoli, carrots, and leek, along with a load of pepper, four cloves of garlic and two whole chillies. I keep them whole so it adds a nice flavour but not overpowering heat, a good tip I learnt from a little old Jamaican lady at a bus stop, changed my life.) Then I encase all of the ingredients in a large piece of greaseproof paper which I have rinsed under the tap and tied it with wet string. Then plop the whole lot in a deep cake tin/baking tray and after about an hour or so you have nice tender flavourful chicken and some beautiful par baked par steamed veg.

It's not going to win a michelin star but it is quick, easy, tasty, and paleo. I think.

First of all, hello, my name is Spax, I'm 23, male, and overweight. Not massively overweight, but my diet is awful and I'm at risk of strokes and cardiac issues so I've decided to do something about it.

Now, onto the issue. I've been eating paleo for only 2 days and tracking it on a food calculator but the issue is that I'm only clocking in just over 1000 calories per day. But I seem to feel really full all the time. I don't think I could eat much more if I tried.

Any suggestions?

Aslo, my diet is mainly fruit and veg as I'm pretty poor at the minute and can't afford so much meat.
