Exercises / Title Changed: Agility Training?

Hi all!

I've been ramping up my physical activity. I do yoga a few times per week (flexibility & balance, some strength). Also I've been circuit training on weights and do a bit of cardio on the days I'm not lifting.

What I'm seeing that I've lost over time is... I'm not sure what you call it! It's happening with age. It has to do with being quick, I guess - or being able to jump on/off of things. I don't feel very AGILE is the best way to describe it, I guess.

I'm seeing lots of improvements with the other things I'm doing, but not in this area. Is it jumping specifically I need to do a bit of, is it something that will improve eventually with my activities - or is there a type of exercise (calisthenics?) that covers this?

If I'm not even making sense, just let me know & I'll try to explain it better.

Diet and nutrition / Sugar Swelling

I'm very new to paleo, but loving it (see my intro).

For the last several years I've had a problem where I swell badly all the time. My fingers look like sausages, my nose looks like I'm a prize fighter, my eyes look like I haven't slept in weeks. I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring in years. I've been attributing this to SALT.

After going Paleo for a full week, despite having too much salt (more than usual) I had NO swelling. It was unbelievable! People were noticing the difference in my face and commenting on it, even before I had lost any real weight. Then I fell off the "wagon" after one week and ate a chocolate bar.

It was terrible. I spent the next two hours with overwhelming thirst, drinking nearly 100 oz of water before I went to bed, and still went to bed feeling "dry". The next morning I woke up completely swollen and 6 pounds heavier, overnight. I looked like I had been hit in the face, unrecognizable.

This has really frightened me, actually, because I see that possibly I've been unhealthy long enough to begin damaging my body in a real way. Perhaps even to the point of early insulin resistance?

I'm still having sugar cravings sometimes, especially at night, but I haven't been tempted to go through that again! Since I plan to stay on track, I guess it's mostly academic, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

Is it something that will resolve over time - say I am paleo long-term and eventually I do want to splurge with a dessert very occasionally - will it always mean that every time I have a scoop of ice cream my body freaks out? I want to be healthy, to consider "treats" as they were meant to be - a rare indulgence. But occasionally we all want to indulge a little bit, right? I am celiac so there's very little I can eat anyway, most sweets are out.

If I can't - if this is early insulin resistance & I've just messed myself up, I accept that - but I do wonder if I could heal.

Introductions / Good Morning! New to Paleo in Muscat

Hi all!

I'm an American living in Muscat, Oman. I've been trying a variety of different things over the past year, and they have all failed - either because they were stupid in & of themselves, or because they were to hard to follow.

I've been doing Paleo for two weeks (look at me! LOL) and have lost about ten pounds so far. A great deal of this is water weight, but also includes about an inch out of my hips so far (woohoooooo!).

It's so easy to do, fits in easily with how my husband prefers to eat - and because I'm celiac, I already can't eat many of the foods that aren't "allowed".

So I'm just thrilled so far with the results and I'm hoping that when my husband returns from a long trip he's on, he'll join me. I've lost enough weight for him to notice, I think.

Looking forward to chatting on the forums!
